Re: Timing of late summer preemergent spray for Poa annua

I actually go with one app of Prodiamine (not what you're necessarily interested in, but hear on)...however, I drop in late August before temperatures fully drop into annua sprouting season. My application is already down and watered in as of today (we just got our promised thunderstorm as temperat...

Timing of late summer preemergent spray for Poa annua

Looking at my notes, I’ve consistently done my Dithiopyr late summer spray the first week of September. I think this has worked fairly well but I still do get some annual blue grass in the spring. I have two areas (front and back near the house) that get a lot of shade. A couple years ago I sprayed ...

Re: First Large Lawn

I have a bit more than an acre. I have a JD lawn tractor but I most often cut with a 30” Exmark that I like much better. I can cut the lawn in under 90 minutes with either mower, the lawn tractor may be slightly quicker (larger deck). I use a Scott’s EdgeGaurd for dry fertilizer and DieseaseEx. I us...

Rain today. Yesterday did first Milo Drop in the back lawn since June. Also sprayed some bent grass and nimblewill with Mesotrione.

Re: My spring PreM should be 'expiring', is it ok to seed a little early?

In my experience, Dimension at the .37 per 1000 sq ft rate diminishes at about four months. I don’t think it’s an “all or nothing” situation or the switch just goes on, rather it’s kind of gradual. My guess is you might get a bit less germination but if it were me and the timing was good for me, I’d...

Re: Overseeding area impacted by fungus

Did the grass actually die or did the blades just go brown? You can treat areas with fungus with no issues even on an overseed. Thank you for the guidance regarding no issues with an overseed. I believe that some spots hD grass actually die as there was some black and greasy matter at the roots (py...

Re: How is everyone making out with disease this year?

Not good. I had some small fungal patches in the back that recovered after some sprays but the front is a disaster. The part effected gets full sun all day so it gets stressed some even with irrigation. Then a fungus hit. Will try to overseed in a couple of weeks.

Overseeding area impacted by fungus

In spite of several preventative applications of azoxystrobin and propacanizol, and a curative application, I have areas that were hit hard by fungus. My tentative plan is to rake these areas, put seed down, and top with peat moss. Is there anything else I should do given the fungal outbreak? I’m no...

Re: Pizza

https://slice.seriouseats.com/2012/10/the-pizza-lab-baking-steel-lodge-cast-iron-pizza.html K&N, here is a pretty good article that reviews various makes of pizza steel. Mine is not stainless and I’m not sure if others are (they can rust so I hand wash and dry them, much like a cast iron pan). This ...

Re: Pizza

Quick update: having had seven months and a few dozen cooks, I’ve decided I like the pizza steel better than ceramic. I think the crust is better and cooks faster. My steel is a little smaller than my ceramics but I can live with that and am getting a better feel for the adjusted measurements. Frien...

Re: Status of POACure? (Updated 02/2020 below)

Green: The Moghu rep came to the. Purse and gave a 45 minute presentation on the product and it’s use. I’m told he said Moghu’s phone is ringing off the hook not only from golf courses, but landscapers, homeowners, etc trying to get it. They are very rigorous and strict about registration and sale. ...

Re: Status of POACure? (Updated 02/2020 below)

I just wanted to pass along a conversation I had with our golf course grounds superintendent yesterday. He purchased Poacure and did a trial run on a fairway that had Poa trivialis in it. He is extremely happy with the results and this was just from an application a couple months ago. I checked the ...

Thanks for the input, guys. I guess I’ll keep mowing and not worry about it, or maybe hit them with triclopyr once the weather cools.

Oak tree saplings in yard

I’ve got more than a dozen mature oak trees in my backyard and it seems there were an inordinately high number of acorns last fall. I’ve probably got 200 or more that have emerged as couple inch saplings. I mow at 3” to 3.5” so they are below the cut line. I assume that as they grow the mower will c...

So Andy, do you generally recommend purchasing seed you’ll use in the Fall in early Spring? Thanks.

Re: Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass

Very, very nice! Did you keep the pot outside the entire time? I have some bewitched pots going for about 10 days. I seeded them sparingly because the last set I probably overseeded and got some fungus. I’ve brought them inside for at least part of the time due to the heat.

Very, very nice. So with emblem not around anymore do you patch (e.g., the triv spots you mention) with other seed or do you take some plugs from the emblem portion of the lawn?
