Re: Lowering Turf Lip?
Their are a couple ideas I can think of.... one is to consistently remove the .3-1" of soil right next to the sidewalk - creating a bit of a gap with your string trimmer or edger (or shovel). That will eventually possibly be filled in by the adjacent soil, slowly lowering the soil level. Otherwise a...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Applications - A New Model
Good reminder of a fall fertilizer approach for the masses - this is the plan I am going to probably be emphasizing to friends/family who ask about getting their yard in shape. Much easier to just tell them to really fertilize strong in late august/sept.... and easy to just tell them a good does of ...

Re: Save Me From TruGreen? (CDs 1st Reno 2014)
Pre-M goes down in the spring - when the forsythia are blooming (bright yellow). If you can buy granular, something with Dimension as the preventer. Often it is pre-mixed with fertilizer like http://www.homedepot.com/p/LESCO-50-lb-19-0-7-Dimension-Crabgrass-Preventer-080311/100185665 or Greenview pr...

Re: Tenacity over-spray on shrubs-flowers
My experience in blonde/white bushes.... :-/
yep - it happens once in a while - but they have always bounced right back after a few weeks with a white limb or three. I suppose some bushes , similar to some weeds, react to it faster/more.

Re: BL Soil Conditioner Mix by Weight for Area
I have done the same , with humic acid powder (no water ...just sprinkle in spreader). Easy to get a good amount down as well. Gets a bit messy with the black powder... but i am typically showering afterwards so no biggy. Using kelp meal would be another viable option for avoiding the sprayer a bit ...

Re: Milorganite
Or just read up on the benefits (or maybe in your mind 'myth'? :hmm: ) in the Organic section or in the Articles section. I think feeding lawns and watering are very mixed! I have tons of neighbors that water every other day (AM + PM) very shallow... there yards look good!!! I water deeply approx ev...

Re: Is fallowing required in weedless lawn?
The notes above are especially important if you have any grass not looking too well... a bit dormant (herbicide will be less or non-effective). Just waiting for good conditions to wake back up in the fall.

Re: BL Soil Conditioner MIx by Weight
I haven't used all dry ingredients before - but I can attest that soaking the "soluble" powders for a while before spraying is very important (Humic in my case)! I have found mixing up small batches in old Listerine bottles works well. Then I pour it out carefully to prevent pouring out any sludge t...

Along with what timmy and others have said, anyone with higher pH soil - adding a source of iron that is chelated, and usable by the grass is priceless.

Re: How to Interpret Your Own Soil Test Report
Billy,
Are you saying that there is no (zero) research or reports (full blown study or article/blog-tests) that show effects of grass and micro-nutrients ? Zero research with a conclusion/effect? Before/after treatments? even Iron?

Re: TurfSpy™ EARLY STRESS DETECTION GLASSES
I have them specifically for fishing... but if you wear them enough you will notice a few odd things on occasion. Looking through some tinted and treated windows looks funny sometimes, glare off of all/many types of surfaces gives a weird look (shiny purple!), and grass! Grass shows up much lighter ...

Got over an inch of rain and still going. Boy are my neighbors going to scratch their head when the sprinklers kick on at 2:00 while I'm at work. Nowhere in the forecast was widespread rain. Re: Sta-Green fertilizer (18-24-6)
True , true - but i don't smoke... You can continue to go across the grain here... I guess its a good counter point on ALL topics... Correct - you can fertilize much less, like the 2-4#N per year and have a nice lawn as per all the extension articles, (ooooh mulch mow - cut out a fertilize app!). Si...

Re: How much time to get one inch from your irrigation?
Well sounds like you have it pretty well dialed in! Just thought I would check - a lot of people have never swapped or fine tuned nozzles! Depending on water demand within a zone, it is possible to adjust water output so it is NOT uniform - so possibly reducing one area that doesn't need much (if an...

My guess is that the rolls might have dried out a bit before the install? They might have been rolls laying around, they will bounce back in time.

Re: How much time to get one inch from your irrigation?
DarkShadow - Have you looked at your nozzles before? Might be able to upsize the nozzles - often installers just use the default size, regardless of layout. Granted 4zones with 4 heads sounds like a bit 'custom' for 9600... so maybe they are already maxing out pressure/flow/distances? Can grab a few...

Re: Sta-Green fertilizer (18-24-6)
I have made similar Fert purchases when things are on sale/rebate at Menards :)- I typically just blend some of it here and there into my regular Milo apps or other amendments. That's how i would use it to give a slow steady supply of nutrients. The aggressive fall fertilizing isn't just a last year...

Re: Summer grass density.....
Yeah - trying to stretch out interval mid summmer can be tough - but try to get the 1" down (unless probe test indicate less water is needed to get water down to 4+inch depth?) at most of your waterings. 1" per time is typically my focus, to ensure a decent soaking to root tips (deeper) The spacing ...
