Re: Catch Cup Test
Thank you, Morph! I think for now I'll stick with the Orbit because it's still working. I know the local hardware store around the corner has a lot of Rainbird stuff in stock and I'll check it out when the Orbit dies.

Re: Catch Cup Test
I got the new beefy hose in (3/4" 25'.) It made a tiny difference when run straight to the hose. If I used a timer and/or quick connects, I was right back to where I was with the expandable hose. I guess the sprinkler itself really is the limiting factor here. I'm going to return both of the standar...

Re: Catch Cup Test
Looks like Tommy Tester got 0.27 in./hr. out of his Orbit H20-6. So I can definitely top 0.19 in./hr.

Re: Catch Cup Test
Oh wow, maybe that's why the hoses were the same? I also have an old house (1960) so it might just be the pressure here. I haven't measured it. We'll see if the new hose makes a difference. I purposely bought it on Amazon because returns are so easy. Fingers crossed... Do you happen to have a pic or...

Catch Cup Test
https://i.postimg.cc/DmpTJ0zH/IMG-9030.jpg I did a proper catch cup test for the first time yesterday and I was shocked by the results! I'd done a very unscientific tuna can test at some point and somehow figured out that it would take about 70 minutes to put down 1" of water. WRONG. Here were the ...

Re: Chris Jacobie - Soil Test 2021
I wouldn't go to triple the rate on St. Aug, it just won't require it. Most grasses really won't, although I might give a very slight nod to elite Kentucky bluegrass where a doubling might come in handy every now and again. Supplying iron via foliar spray can work, but it's not the most efficient p...

Re: Chris Jacobie - Soil Test 2021
Sure, it's not as exciting as getting my Boron levels correct Your Boron numbers are right where I want them - that happens 2-3X a year -- but on Numero Uno this yer I'll take it! You can grow an absolutely lovely lawn on a calcium-heavy soil. Grasses don't mind, but may not (as described above ver...

Re: Chris Jacobie - Soil Test 2021
I've been using Milo exclusively on the annual rye and it's looking amazing. Plus, Milorganite is about the cheapest organic fert I've found per pound of N. So this sounds like a win to me. Sure, it's not as exciting as getting my Boron levels correct but it sure simplifies things and it's easy on t...

Chris Jacobie - Soil Test 2021
HISTORY 2021 will be my first full season caring about and for the lawn. I got interested in lawn care around June of 2020. I’ve owned this house for 4 years. Until this past year, I hired the cheap mow and blow guys to bag clippings during the summer and pickup leaves in the fall. I irrigated for ...

You can always check here, though a meat thermometer isn't much more work.

Re: Help: I Can't Get Soil Probe Into Ground!
Pre-emergents aren't necessarily a death knell to soils; I use them myself. At the end of the day, they're bacteria food, like anything else. Synthetics, used judiciously, same. Thanks, Morpheus. That makes sense. I think I'd like to try not using them since it'll be my first year even doing good b...

Re: Looking Forward to 2021 Season
This last year was my first season and I got started somewhere in the middle. Here's my overall plan:
-Get a soil test and post it here. Follow advice!
-Dial my irrigation in before laying sod and Summer drought.
-Prepare soil for sod and lay it down.

Re: So Who Got What?
My daughter has inherited my procrastination, but I'm told to expect a Joule sous vide machine any day now. The sous vide is a game changer. We got one a few years back for Christmas and it makes the juiciest steak ever (assuming it's quality and you season it well, of course!) Combine that with th...

Re: Help: I Can't Get Soil Probe Into Ground!
Sharpshooter + transplanter worked great! Interesting findings: The struggling, existing St. Augustine that has received synthetic ferts and pre-emergents was a ghost town. I only saw one earthworm in the process. The really bad trouble spot that's almost bare had a grub wriggling around in the firs...

Re: So Who Got What?
As far as yard stuff goes, I got an Ego blower (I have the 21" mower.) Leaves on my red oaks usually drop in early Jan. so this is right on time.

Help: I Can't Get Soil Probe Into Ground!
Hi, I was excited to kick this year off with my first ever soil test. I ordered this soil probe , got out my measuring tape and a sterilized plastic container plus some latex gloves. I was able to pull one decent sample after about 6-7 attempts. The soil is still a little damp from some rains on New...
