Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
For Dad&theDuke, the before and after photos... This is not a perfect comparison, because the before was taken in June, and the after was taken in May. Also, the lighting is a bit different as well. So is the angle. But I think it gives you a good impression overall. In both cases, the lawn was mowe...

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
Thanks, guys. So, how does PR fit in? I think they're just a little smaller than fescue seeds in general... One thing I'd caution about any seed mixture involving PR, it is not just about the seed count. In most instances PR will come up faster, grow faster upon germination and out compete KBG and ...

Re: Why Is It That....
Why can I walk across my lawn and pass small patches and say "Annua. Annua. Triv. Annua", but when I look at a picture I can never be sure. Is there some nuance to the color/shape/whatever that is so different? I am alone in being WAY more confused be a picture than the "in the wild" plant? As a ph...

Yes! There is more KBG now than before. And it's not impossible to do. I'll have photos later this week.jglongisland wrote:Are you sure that it is KBG vs. Rye. That seems like a nearly impossible task to increase KBG that much. Any closeups?

Re: My summer 2013 Goals and timing - please evaluate
Getting close now...
Ok, let's say I decide to test the back sepearately because I'm renovating it this fall...
I have topsoil/compost I'm going to be spreading (an inch or two). Do I mix a bit of that with the existing subsoil for the soil test, or do I just test the subsoil alone?

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
You gotta look at the post Slash dude put up about seed proportioning. He and tiemco NASA'd that work. Fabulous thread that will help every member on this site who blends their own. http://aroundtheyard.com/renovations/slash8118-2013-tttf-kbg-reno-target-seed-date-t10936-20.html Did you link to the...

Ok. And I guess I could hold off on Milorganite, too if it would help...necessary or not?andy10917 wrote:I dunno. I personally wouldn't do it- it can't help and potentially could affect the Sodium number and maybe even affect the pH slightly for a few days.

SLS (shampoo) *before* doing soil test?
Would it be a bad idea to spray shampoo with SLS as a wetting agent a few days or a week before taking soil samples for testing? Figure it might make the soil easier to get a sample from. But will i tthrow off the testing?

Re: Frost Adivsory - to mow or not to mow?
I guess I figured that the cut areas would freeze-thaw and damage the grass. I mowed, anyway.kingofgreen wrote:Green wrote:Ok, I was just wondering if it was a reason not to...grass being more susceptible after being cut?
Susceptible to what?

Re: Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
where are your before and after pictures dude? I wanna see this stuff. I have a 90/10 KBG, which, I was told by the seed people, is more like a 50/50 seed count. But, I want to overseed with more kBg this year and some TTTF, so's I can eventually have the KBG overpower the TTTF and beat it into sub...

Interesting Results from Overseed after 8 Months
The lawn was a year old when I overseeded this past fall, and was 20-30% KBG and 70-80% TTPR. I utilized core aeration and verticutting (a practice frowned upon by many here) to thin it out before overseeding this past fall. Goal of overseed was to increase the percentage of KBG, and to increase the...

Re: Overseeding Nortern Mix
haha, tbh = to be honest Thanks for the help Green, I appreciate it. I'm going to get word from my uncle on which route he wants to go and then I'll poke around the NTEP's a bit and see what JDL carries for mixes with some KBG in them. I've heard thought that it's tough to get KBG to germinate in P...

Frost Adivsory - to mow or not to mow?
So, there's a frost advisory in effect for tonight here. I am due to mow today. Should I wait until tomorrow? One of the areas is new grass that I dormant seeded that is in the process of germinating.

Re: Overseeding Nortern Mix
I haven't given much thought to anything tbh lol - I don't know much about TTPR. I figured TTTF or PR would be the best bet due to quickest germination, but you've got me thinking some KBG might be a good idea. Are there cultivars available that aren't shit overall, but just have worse color? That ...

Re: Overseeding Nortern Mix
Thanks for the input guys - It's for my uncles lawn, not my dads. It's been neglected the past few years and he has 3-4 large patches that are completely bare (or will be, once he sprays 2-4D/CCO). Green - I'm honestly not sure what is there now. Probably a mix of CRF, KGB and PRG. Not great at ID'...

Re: Overseeding Nortern Mix
What the hell do I use to overseed a northern mix that won't stand out like crazy? I seeded my dads lawn last year with Lesco PRG and it mixes okay, but is already a bit darker just 6 months after seeding and his lawn is in much better shape then the lawn I'll be overseeding this fall. A large patc...

Re: Spreading Experiment
Which ones are spreading the most? Which ones the least? There is a definite difference in rate of spread among the plugs.
