Ken-n-Nancy's 2020 "Driveway Side" Lawn Renovation - 2020-09-28 - Sprout an Pout Over!
The evidence suggests that "sprout and pout" is now OVER for Ken-n-Nancy's renovation this year! Decided today that the baby grass is showing significant growth, so we're looking forward to mowing before long! Today was a gorgeous day to be outside! Ken mowed the established portions of the lawn, Na...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2020
"Call him Ken. Some hours ago—never mind how long precisely—having little or no cations in his soil, and nothing particular to interest him in the gardens, he thought he would sample about a little and see the chemical parts of his world." I might have something there. Definitely worth a chuckle. I...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
What I will do next year is watch japenese beetles. I should have done something this year because I saw tons of them on my plants. I was really shocked because they vanished in 2013 but came back this year. Once I see them(I think it was June), I'm going to drop down grub preventative products lik...

Did you also purchase and apply a curative grub-killing product? For anybody with a grub problem, I highly recommend reading the annual article from Michigan Statue University on grubs . (follow the link!) Yes I did. I was looking for Sevin but it wasn't available. I purchased 24 hr grub killer fro...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy Soil Test - Spring 2020
Today, I mailed off to Logan Labs a recently-collected soil sample from the front lawn area in order to specifically check to see what has happened with sodium levels over the summer in the area below the roadside (pictured way above earlier in the thread). Also curious to see how the other cations ...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy's 2020 "Driveway Side" Lawn Renovation
Sorry S&P continues! But soon you’ll be on the other side and having to mow. Even though you’ve dubbed it a “sparse valley,” that looks like once it takes off it should fill in quite nicely. And that bear video is wild! Haha that would be quite the site to look up and see that activity! Interesting...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
Looks like my KBG lawn didn't die or maybe some parts of it. I still can't tell how much. Blades are coming out, LOL! Though in front, on bare dirt, I did see fine grass blades about half inch coming out too but not a lot. I can't tell how much are dead or alive. I still dropped TTTF today though. ...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy's 2020 "Driveway Side" Lawn Renovation
Haven't had any bears in our lawn today, but today is the 2-year anniversary of when we did have 4 young bears harvesting acorns out of our oak trees, particularly including the one that I was just about to start mowing underneath... Today, when I pushed the mower over to the side lawn, I was dismay...

Re: Game On for Autumn Leaves!!
Would you be willing to tell us a bit more about that "better plan" -- clearly you're not still doing a pair of rakes or you would have moved to a different home long before autumn #35... OK, you asked for it. It's not a single discovery that was a "Eureka" moment, though - it's a series of increme...

From afar and overall things are looking really good. I am pleased where this is at. I could give some areas a haircut and I may do that this weekend. https://i.postimg.cc/grwbchD9/DSC-3090.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/7f0v0ydm/DSC-3097.jpg That's looking good! Keep up the excellent work!

Re: Grass identification and advice on next steps
1) Some animal - presumably skunks or racoons has dug up some spots in this beautiful new lawn. Nothing major, but enough to bother me. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I didn't think grubs were an issue this time of year, but I am probably wrong. You could replace the lawn with pavement...

Re: Game On for Autumn Leaves!!
It's Game On time now to stay ahead of the fallen leaves ... I'm glad to report that significant leaf fall hasn't started here yet. A couple weeks ago, a tree across the street started dropping most of its leaves, but so far, it's been the only one. The leaf fall is coming soon, though, that's for ...

Re: Bought a New Lawn Mower -- Cub Cadet SC100H -- Long Term Review
It has been a few months since I've posted an update on the Cub Cadet SC100H mower so I figured it was time to add some more thoughts about the mower to this thread. I continue to be very happy with the new mower. I've come to appreciate that its light weight makes it easy to push and maneuver. I de...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation
What do you think is the cause of the thin areas along the property boundaries? Poorer watering from the irrigation system in those spots? Overwatering from the irrigation system in those spots? Pre-emergent from the neighbor? The left property line is definitely due to overwatering. That area sits...

Ken-n-Nancy's 2020 "Driveway Side" Lawn Reno - Day 29 Photo Update
Today is Day 29 from seed-down and the time for the next weekly installment of photos. It's agonizing that "sprout and pout" continues. Just like last week, it kind of feels like the growth is just in slow motion. However, there is some progress apparent in the pictures as compared to last week. We ...
