Re: Early-Season Proactive Trick: Gypsum for Road Salt Damage
Just curious Andy, you have me on a gypsum application every 2 months right now, would this alter anyone's soil amendments? Asking for friends because my road never gets salted...

Weed ID for FL Parents
Hey guys! I humbly come to the Warm Season section with a picture from my mom. She's down near Sarasota, FL and has this weed that is spreading all over. They have St. Augustine grass which it has started growing in and then spreading into her flower beds. To me, it looks like a little sedum like I'...

Re: Trees looking confused.
I have buds on some trees, but they don't appear to be popping any time soon. Forsythia looks the same but further along. And I have daffodil bulbs that are over an inch out of the ground. Nature's weird.

Re: Oak Tree: Heat/Water/Light
Thanks for moving this to a new topic Andy!
The lesser growth does follow mostly directly underneath the canopy give or take a foot or two.
Timmy, I’m assuming those spring rains coincided with leaves filling out and the tree waking back up?

Oak Tree: Heat/Water/Light
I have a giant oak in the front yard. Every season it's pretty dry under the tree. I always suspect it's lack of water. However, as soon as the oak loses it's leaves in Dec-Feb, the grass starts perking up again. With leaf cover, the grass under the tree only receives light for the first hour and la...

I want to defy The Pause.
Well, I'm finally getting leaves falling. We got a cold snap into the mid 20's that made a few trees shed. Now I have sunlight finally hitting my shady areas and getting some fill in! Woohoo! Funny how I have to wait for winter to get some areas to grow... So, I'm one of the weirdo's who doesn't thi...

Location Map for Us
As I was mowing yesterday I got to thinking...does ATY have a location map of users' general area? I was wondering how many people are growing KBG either further South or West than I was. If there was a map that had a location with grass type, that would be interesting. I'll even name it the "Misery...

Re: Is fall happening or not??
I hear you on those quick transitions MobileD! Spring and Fall are just not lasting as long as I feel they should. Over here in OKC, our leaves still aren't even changing color. Every tree is still green! Low tonight and tomorrow are around 37-38F...go figure.

Re: First Frost
I think Andy's AFFD is to help people get the ballpark idea of when to stop the urea. If you got a frost, I think I would stop with the applications. Your grass probably got the hint that cool temps are quickly approaching. I'm not that experienced though and wait for smarter people to weigh in.

Re: JHazzardB Soil Test 2019
I was waiting until I had to do some digging around the yard... I’ll start applying The gypsum and continue on it into 2020. I’ll grab the SOP but have a question. First application I’ll be able to get down would be October 5. Can I squeeze another monthly app in in early November given my more...te...

Is fall happening or not??
I know technically it just started but daaaaaaaaang. Where is fall?? Its still upper 80's here and should be for the next 10 days out. I haven't even noticed any trees thinking about changing colors or droppings leaves. I dropped some seed for repair spots but held half and dropping again in 2 weeks...

Compost Dressing
I tried searching but didn't find too much... If you top dress with compost, does it affect the soil level height in the long term? It doesn't act the same as sand topping or topsoil, right? I feel like someone was talking about adding 4" of compost around some magnolias at one point and by the end ...

Re: 1 acre lot
Oh man Jump, that's a toughy for me. Not being able to water the acre is the biggest kicker. Are you worried about wasting seed? I'd still get the grass seed down and covered and worked into the soil if you can. I'd also pray for some rains to germinate some this fall but if not, spring rains might ...
