Re: Gbig2's soil test results, you called it Morpheus!
I'd like to see the OM go up, but on an acre lot that's not very realistic. Lies! Damned Lies! Statistics! David and BP lectured me for years about the need for me to up the OM and go organic. I told them that it wasn't possible on an acre - and I had the math to prove it. Then I tried it for a yea...

Re: Powdery Mildew
ARGGGGGH!!!! I'm such an Idiot.
I see why the Baking Soda application probably didn't work for me this time - my card with the mixture didn't specify to add surfactant and I didn't even think when I mixed and applied it.

Re: Driveway Coating
Tuna fish. How do you think we wind up with a never-ending supply of empty tuna fish cans? You don't think we really EAT it, do you?if not concrete, what do yall use for drives up there?
Actually, the real answer is Asphalt/Blacktop/Macadam - whatever it's called in your area.

Re: Powdery Mildew
This is an oft-used euphenism to indicate that the Powdery Mildew is beginning to kill the grass. It is oft-used by lawn owners that don't want to admit that their lawn is being killed. Like Me.What do you mean by "thinning of the grass"? That doesn't sound good either.

Re: Gbig2's soil test results, you called it Morpheus!
The 2-2-2 version is documented at this link: Soil Management:Part I.Can you give me the jar test instructions?
If you haven't done so yet, I also recommend the Percolation Test, which has saved the butts of a few members recently. It's documented in the same Article...

Re: Gbig2's soil test results, you called it Morpheus!
Your Phosphorus is low because your CEC is low. Phosphorus does not leach easily out of loamy or clay soils, but takes the express train in sandy soils. Are you working aggressively to bring up that OM? Be very careful about adding large quantities of Phosphorus to a lawn quickly. Phosphorus can int...

Re: Powdery Mildew
I also have a Powdery Mildew problem. It was light-to-moderate, but after not responding to Milk and Baking Soda, I went to "Serenade" (OMRI-listed bacterial treatment for PM) on Saturday, as I'm beginning to get some thinning of the grass in the heaviest PM areas.

What Happens to Poa A that makes it through the Summer?
I have a LOT of Poa Annua (30% of 14K Renovation). I'm taking an attitude of outlasting it by two years of Pre-M to break the cycle. But if I don't let my first-year renovation go dormant and the Poa A makes it through the Summer, what happens then? Does it die the following winter? Obviously, I don...

Re: Minor Victory Celebrated
I'm going with April 1, July 1 and September 15th for treatment dates. I have not fully decided which Pre-M I will be using in July and September yet - still researching my options.

Re: My next soil test (where UMASS is not an option)
Au contraire. The "prohibition" that you speak of is not a prohibition. Labs that bother to go through a specific type of certification can get things to run smooth-as-silk for you. You merely attach a piece of paper with the Addressee's certification number on it and it sails through customs. I hav...

Re: Minor Victory Celebrated
L$G: I have been a big advocate of patience - I am hunkered down and in a planned two-year fight with the Poa Annua by putting away the polka-dot RoundUp solution and deciding to wear it down with Pre-M applications until there is no more Poa. I took on broadleafs by eliminating the easy ones with 2...

A Horrible Thought...
I don't know about the rest of you, but when doing gardening work my mind tends to jump from one topic of thought to the next and often there is no pattern or connection between thoughts. My mind goes where it goes, and that's part of the beauty of lawn/garden work. So, I was doing a brix test today...

Minor Victory Celebrated
I celebrated a minor victory today - my inspection of the 2009 Renovation showed zero broadleaf weeds. I declared victory over the last of the last of the chickweed invasion and the inevitable collection of "interesting" plant species that decided to call my lawn home. Especially satisfying was that...

Welcome to BL, Lawn$Garden!!! It's about time that you woke up and smelled the Milorganite.
We'll be looking for those pictures... but I fear I know what they're gonna show.

Just wait until they're in their 20's and they call you an Idiot because it takes you ten minutes to differentiate between Poa A and Poa T.
