Re: Tenacity for everything?

I only use Tenacity for grassy weeds, and it does a very nice job in handling them. Again, I have very little weed pressure from clover, dandelions, and other weeds. I have a push mower, so if I see a weed, I stop, pull the weed out and mulch it up on the next pass. I have more weed pressure in the ...

Re: Tenacity for everything?

For Herbicides, I only use Tenacity in the spring for Poa Annua and any other grassy weeds that might be in the lawn. I typically do 3 applications 1 week apart at the 3.6 ounce/acre rate. I just finished my last app last Sunday. If I see any weeds in the lawn during the summer, I just pull them out...

Re: Spot seeding after Pre M

If your going to wait to re seed until mid August, then I would say it's a good plan. Keep encouraging the Triv to grow by water and fertilizer and keep killing it.

Nice lawn and nice edging. A lawn and landscape always looks better when it's nicely edged.

Re: Spot seeding after Pre M

If your seeing Triv coming up, you have already lost the battle, it's just going to come back again. Like Northeastlawn stated, better to dig out the soil in that area and replace with new topsoil. If the area isn't too large, you can go to HD and by bags of topsoil that will work fine. Also make su...

Re: Reminder: Time to Start Prepping for Summer

What if your KBG is just starting to grow this last week, or its too busy pushing out KBG seed heads and doesn't want to do top growth? :-) I typically wait to fertilize until after the seed heads set, this is the time the grass turns to growing deeper roots and a good fertilization will benefit th...

Re: Tenacity and Temperature

The best control for Poa Annua remains excellent Pre-M application(s)s at the right time(s). Yes, I agree The issue with waiting for very warm temperatures is that very warm temperatures also make the Poa Annua decline, and close to half of the season has already been passed by. Yes, but I'm not go...

Re: Poa Triv Explosion...Comfort me

The problem with an overseed in the fall is that you need to water lightly several times a day to get the new grass to germinate. Light frequent watering just invites things like Poa Annua and Poa Triv. I had a few big trees taking down last year and re seeded some areas that were very thin due to e...

I have found that a single 4oz tenacity app doesn’t light up,the poa Annua, and it takes a few apps for it to bleach, so if your going to do it hold out for warmer drier weather when things are growing well.
Yes, I agree totally. Last I did it around this time and the weather was similar.

Tenacity and Temperature

What are people's thoughts on applying Tenacity for Poa Annua in regards to temperature. The one article I keep going back to " Tenacity: A new weapon in the Poa Annua battle", really emphasizes that the warmer the temperature, the more effective Tenacity will be. The weather here in Mass has been c...

Re: Timing of preventative fungicide

I used to get Red thread every year no matter what I did and what Fungicides I tried. The way I finally beat it was to blow up my Northern Mix and plant a mono stand of Bewitched. No more Red thread, problem solved! Not sure how old your lawn is, but the newer Cultivars are far more superior to dise...

Re: The effects of too much rain

It's probably due to less sun, and not too much rain. Your backyard is very shady so come August, the sun is lower and your backyard doesn't get the amount of sun it did in May, June, and July. In the Fall, the sun is even lower so the grass has a hard time recovering.

Re: Mowing Choice For Seedlings

At the very least, I would use a hand push mower and not a riding mower. I have done several renovations and have always used my Honda push mower without any issues at all, just be careful turning. I think a rider would be too heavy for the first month of mowing but I have never tried it. I think th...

Re: Grass color / type -- odd results?

I wouldn't say the KB looks awful for two months old. It's tough to judge with such a small sample and time. How much sun has it been getting? And yes, you should cut it and give it more time before judging. The KB mix you have should look very good.

Re: Anyone have some extra KBG?

I think what your doing is a good idea, but you need to give the test plots at least a year to see how they perform over the summer before you choose. Most grasses look good in the fall and spring, but summer is the true test to see how they will perform. Not only from a temperature standpoint, but ...

Re: Backyard shade mix to go with front yard KBG

KBG isn't going to happen back there I wouldn't give up on KBG so fast. I have a Bewitched Monostand and I don't get allot of sun in the back and it does fairly well. It's not as thick and dense as the areas that get more sun, but not bad. I would at least consider adding in some Bewitched in whate...

Re: Ken-n-Nancy's 2018 Front Lawn Renovation - "War on Triv"

Just a quick question Ken-n-Nancy from your post: oday we applied the first application of pre-emergent to stop Poa annua from germinating this fall: Prodiamine 65 WDG at a 3-month rate (0.5 Tbsp/ksqft). From the label, the max rate for KBG is 0.55 ounces/1000 sqft per year. The rate you used was 0....
