Re: New Planted Lawn
There are a few things that you can do and one you don't need to do. To start off, your bermuda will look better if it gets 1 inch of water per week. Yes, I realize that bermuda is not supposed to need as much water as other grasses, but they are talking about survival, not looking GREAT! Whether th...

I think I agree with all the actual suggestions. If I can summarize what i remember... 1. Never use synthetic ferts until you have your pH under control. 2. Always use organic ferts until you get your pH under control. 3. Mulch mow. 4. Your grubs are last year's problem, not this year's. 5. Somethin...

Re: Long Island, NY - New to Bestlawn
frizbman, I applaud your desire for an organic approach. If you are worried about what it might look like, go to the http://aroundtheyard.com home page, look at the showcase slideshow, and guess which lawn is organic. If you read somewhere that KBG was hard to care for, they must have been watering ...

Re: Google search results
About 30 years ago my first wife, the one with the degree in horticulture, lived in northern California where the agriculture seemed to have converted to all hemp. We were used to buying Miracle Gro in little 8-ounce containers, but they bought it in 40-pound bags. She had an opportunity to see some...

Re: Maintenance Program
If your hose end sprayer is not clogged, you should be able to set it at 8 ounces per gallon (wide open) and watch the interior contents disappear in a minute or two. Sand won't help you. Organic matter will. Mulch mowing your grass clippings and tree leaves is best. Compost is next best. Peat is la...

Re: New KBG dying off?
My wife got a thick white fungus on the soil of her African violet several years ago. The bottom leaves rotted and fell off the plant. The African violet mafia recommends trashing any AV with any fungus so they were no help. I treated it with milky water by drenching it several times. The fungus wen...

Re: Bermuda Problem
Spraying Weed-b-gone on individual, broadleafed weeds should not hurt the bermuda, especially if the bermuda is still dormant. You could probably spray grass-b-gone on the grassy weeds as long as the bermuda is dormant.

Another consideration is sloping. Is the back perhaps sloped to the south and north sloped to the north?

I used to ride my dirt bike in that area.
On another forum there was a question about handling those lawns if you only had access to them every 2 weeks. It was from a lawn professional who has a contract to manage foreclosed lawns for a bank.

Joe really is the AACT guy for lawns. The trombone sprayer is a manual pump device. Thw Wayne sounds good.
I know a lady who sprays in huge bulk, but she uses an agricultural sprayer with a gigantic nozzle. If you want to spray 200 gallons per day, let me know.

Even a cheap siphon should work. If it is not working, I would suspect the siphon parts are clogged. Try disconnecting the black tube and blowing through it. Use pipe cleaners twisted together to try and clean it out. Then inspect the place where the black tube plugs into the brass piece. See if you...

Re: Grain prices in Houston, and a question...
I used to have a list of organic stores in Houston on another forum but the administrator apparently thought I had too many stickies so he released them. I'll see what I can find. The number of organic friendly nurseries in Houston used to be zero but has grown due to the popularity of some Saturday...

Re: MOLES!
I will keep an eye out because I just read a message in the past two weeks about a certain type of trap for moles available at feed stores. Moles and rodents is a game of numbers and patience. You put out enough traps for long enough and pretty soon they are all gone. Cats and Jack Russell terriers ...

Re: Cordless electric mowers
My MIL bought a corded electric about six years ago. I used hers on her lawn and soon went out and bought the cordless version (B&D). It is okay. I like it being nearly silent (as well as no gas, oil, or spark to worry about), but it does not cut as nicely as a gas powered one. The blade speed is no...

Specifically where do you live? Toward Sugarland, Pearland, or League City? When you get past Sugarland to the SE, then you get into grass farms in Wharton. Their feed store sells corn meal as I recall. The place that sells it for $21.50 is probably selling corn gluten meal and not corn meal. There ...

This is pretty cool. Go to http://www.wordle.net and paste in your favorite text. I used the text from the Organic Lawn Care FAQ. Then you hit the Go button and it picks the words out of the text and makes a picture out of them. Use your own text, vary the settings and see if you like anything. http...
