Re: I've killed my lawn

Could we maybe look at other things you (or your contractor) are doing? Maybe different fertilizer, timing or mowing practices will make enough of an improvement.

Re: How is everyone making out with disease this year?

I have a little something going on. Anybody know what this is and what the proper course of action would be? Some individual blades have died off, others have these lesions but most are fine.

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

if it were my project, I’d apply the Tenacity last. Of course, I’d also probably skip the top dressing. I’ve done about a dozen renovations over the years. In some of the early ones I topdressed. I’ve had the best results with seed, roll, tenacity. Where I have grass stubble, I can see the top dres...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

As soon as I finish my breakfast I am headed outside to work on my reno. With luck I will get the tenacity down, seed spread and compost top dressing down before the end of the day. Tomorrow will be roller and makeshift fence to keep the dog off it.

Good luck

Re: New house lawn

I wish someone would start stealing the mail from my mailbox. As for a slow growing grass type for WA, I'm on the opposite side of the country so I have no idea. In fact, even if you were my neighbor and said that minimal mowing was your priority, I wouldn't know what to suggest. Actually, you could...

Re: Pressure wash high spots

I used this strategy with a regular garden hose today. It seemed to work. I had small humps left over from where I transplanted sod into gulleys caused by a wash out 3 years ago. Much easier than trying to shave an inch or two off with a flat shovel.

Re: Schreibdave's 2020 Backyard Renovation

Question about fertilizing at seed down ... My soil fertilization plan calls for alternating apps of starter and milo. Starter went down on July 25th. My plan is for seed down on August 15th, plus or minus. If I drop milo at seed down, that will be 3 weeks after the last app of starter. Should I dro...

Re: Schreibdave's 2020 Backyard Renovation

One app of glyphosate. There were no survivors. I would like to go seed down on Friday the 14th. The only thing I am short is a pick up load or two of muni compost that I will use as a top dressing. https://i.postimg.cc/6425tr4W/20200807-101359.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/bDFN7CJV/20200807-101413.jpg

Do you have experience designing the irrigation system? Or did a pro design it for you? I've done a DIY system (less professional than what you have done) and I ask because I learned to test the zones before I buried everything. I had places where I thought I could run x number of heads, only to fin...

I have painted before but I dont think I would do it again. I would prefer to try to dribble the RU out of the sprayer.

Re: What are these dead spots?

It could be a dog urine spot. I have a dog and it doesn't occur in areas that she can't get to. But it is inconsistent. The areas where she goes most often are fine but these other areas where she might go less frequently get the spots. Plus her diet is very consistent so I would think her urine's c...

Re: Anyone still dropping Milo?

What's "PFAS?" Heavy metals? I am a huge believer in Milo. I spot applied a heavy dose in an area that I was trying to thicken up following last years renovation, and not only did the area fill in nicely (which it might have done anyway) but it turned a much darker green then the untreated area. It ...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

Looks good. Did you mow and bag all of that dead grass yourself? I only killed off about 4K sqft and I got lucky that the HOA's mowing contractor was in the neighborhood yesterday. He scalped it with his big riding mower with bags on the back. He still had to make several stops to dump the bags into...

I would want to make sure that the hydro seed truck doesn't have any seed in it from a previous job. That's a good idea though.

Right off New Scotland Ave between the two hospitals. It's a pretty great neighborhood. I used to know it well. Both of my kids and my wife were born at St. Peter's Hospital. But a lot of that area has changed for the better since we moved away. Lawn looks about a million times better than what you...

I look forward to doing this sort of thing someday for my 22 and 24 YO kids. It does put a little pressure on your son in law though. Hopefully he has bought in to the lawn nut approach to lawn care.

Re: I got a visit from the County Water Department

I got my bill. $275 for the quarter ending 7/31. I used 56,000 gallons in total. Same quarter last year (prior to doing a 3 side renovation) was 18,000. This was my first season with new kbg on 3/4 of the lawn and my first year in this house with an irrigation system. We had a drought and lots of he...
