Hell Strip full of tree roots.....

This year my plan is to reno my last front hell strip. Is the last bit of original lawn I never got around to redoing. It was a hodgepodge of grass thru the ages and I am sick of watering by hand so much in the summer. So I decided to reseed it with TTTF this year and got a blend better suited to sh...

Re: Would pulling up poa annua disrupt the pre-emergent layer?

I 2nd what MorpheusPA said, but will just add that a few years ago I really stretched out my watering in an attempt to kill off the poa-a. What I always thought was disease was actually poa-a. I thought it was dieing, but what I found is that a lot of the seemingly dead poa-a will bounce back next s...

Re: Would pulling up poa annua disrupt the pre-emergent layer?

You could also spray again with Prodiamine, it has a different active ingredient. Also even if pulling the poa-a damages the pre-m layer, it does prevent hundreds of little poa-a seeds getting in the lawn and sitting there for years to come up. Despite my fall pre-m, I noticed a bumper crop coming u...

Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Dropped my pre-m today in S.E. Mass, we are getting rain tonight, and there isn't any rain in the forecast next week. The Forsythias have buds and are probably a few weeks away from full bloom, but rather use the natural rain to water it in, than start up the sprinkler already. Temps in the 60's nex...

Re: Fertilizer for the year!

I am all set for this year, the guys from work gave me 8 bags for a finders fee :-) They were using milo from Walmart before I told them about BSF and were overjoyed when they reopened after the COVID closure. My family ended up buying locally for about $10 a bag, which isn't horrible if you only us...

Re: Fertilizer for the year!

I am in the same boat, I have a pickup and used to get around around 25 bags, which included family and a few neighbors, but 50 bags is crazy. Two guys from work who I told about this meet at Quincy last year and just loaded up the 50 bags into two trucks. Maybe we have to start doing a Quincy meet ...

I always apply Grub-ex between April 15th and May 15th.

Thats fine, that won't effect an over-seed or your soil test.

I'd work on the soil test and get your pre-m down. It's early, but things take off quickly as we get to April.

Re: Tenacity Application Timing Question

Andy wrote the triangle approach article, the best time to over-seed is some time around August, and the spring is the perfect time to take care of any weeds in your lawn. Make sure you find a Forsythia bush in your area and put down your pre-m to take care of crab grass before it comes up. make sur...

Re: Prodiamine in MA??

I have never seen that Lesco Stonewall 0.68% 0-0-7 pre-m in the stores up here. Prodiamine is supposed to last longer, thats a good find if someone isn't into spreading. Its good to grab enough for the August/Sept pot-a out break also, as many stores only carry this stuff in the spring.

Re: Prodiamine in MA??

Are you looking for something you can spray or something granular? I'm also from S.E. Mass, finding any pre-m without fertilizer is tough. I used to be able to find Dimension in granular form, one store in S. Dartmouth used to carry Jonathon Green pre-m, but it stopped carrying it when JG changed up...

Re: Prodiamine Question

I could never get a solid answer on which pre-m works better for Poa-a and which CG. I base this years spring experiment on something I saw on youtube; the claim was to use dimension first because it wears down faster. That way your spring dose of Prodiamine is lasting longer into summer than the Di...

Re: Prodiamine Question

I only know my area which is massachusetts; but the spring pre-m is mostly to control Crab Grass (CG), where as the August and October pre-m apps control Poa-A. The pre-m also controls other things, but CG and Poa-a are the weeds hardest to control post emergent. For a lot of us the pre-m for poa-A ...

Re: Tenacity + Scotts Turf Builder Crabgrass Preventer

If you aren't doing any seeding this year and want to go after CG in the spring and POA-A in the fall, you might want to split the pre-m into two different products. In the spring put down Dimension, which has a yearly limit. Then in the late August and October spray Prodiamine which has its own yea...

Re: It's March!! Time to Wake Up (and Happy Birthday ATY)

Once the showers blew through, we were at a balmy 50deg.

I was just thinking its time to order some seed for part of my front hell strip experiment.

My backyard is probably in better shape than any spring i have ever had, really looking forward to this year.

Re: Looking Forward to 2021 Season

Last year my KBG really seemed to take off. Im still fighting POA-Annua; but it seems less because of hand pulling the poa-annua and the KBG is spreading much more aggressively if I can keep POA-Annua out of the bare spots. Last year I think I had some poa-a that must have germinated after the first...

Re: Starter Plus Weed Preventer 21-22-4

I have suggested people to use it; and your on the right track, but the general consensus among many on here is.... 1.) You usually don't have to put down starter with the seed if you have good soil, your better off waiting until 30 days after germination to put any fertilizer down. Every request on...

Re: Battery-powered leaf blower suggestions

For some reason Lowe’s puts all their lawn stuff on clearance every Fall. Resellers grab them up and put them on eBay, because come Christmas even their website won’t have many cordless lawn stuff in stock. Come next spring and summer, they will start to have things in stock again. COVID may have so...

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?

Noticed this thread come back, Green is right on the money. December 2019 my lawn was a disaster, it had gotten destroyed from that summer. I was hoping and praying for a miracle come spring. I had bare spots everywhere, KBG spreading was my only hope. Spring this year and the KBG took off and was f...
