Fescue Seedlings - Yellow Tips - Fungus?
Greetings! I had some bare spots under a large tree that I seeded with a blend of Falcon IV and Shenandoah Elite fescue. (Bonide's heat & drought mix) about 4 weeks ago (9-30). I spread a few bags of Scott's lawn soil and tilled prior to spreading seed. The seedlings have come in very nice!... Upon ...

Re: Rain Bird Rotors: 3504 vs. 5004
I would HIGHLY suggest using the 5004 over the 3504. Reason being is you can adjust the left and right "stops" of the 5004 without a tool or digging/rotating the entire body. They have a feature called a "slip clutch" that seems to be mentioned anywhere. I have both.. and in one area where I needed ...

Re: Fescue Suggestion - Sandy Soil in Mixed Lawn
Alright, so I ordered some of OutSidePrice's Texas x Kentucky hybrid. Got a tiny package of Bonide's deep shade mix AND Bonide's heat/drought tolerant fescue mix. Will use a little of each and hope for the best!

Re: Fescue Suggestion - Sandy Soil in Mixed Lawn
Great, appreciate the advice everybody. Sure is challenging to have a mixed sun/shade lawn. Based on what I've read about the HBG's, it is sounding like I should do Hybrid bluegrass in the "transitional" areas, and re-seed more fescue in the consistently shady areas.

Re: Fescue Suggestion - Sandy Soil in Mixed Lawn
Ok great, I'll see what I can find. Is it generally suggested to establish bluegrass varieties from sod or seed?

Re: Fescue Suggestion - Sandy Soil in Mixed Lawn
I have not... definitely interested in anything that spreads and has a decent drought & sunlight tolerance. I've never had a lawn with any type of bluegrass. Will do some reading.

Fescue Suggestion - Sandy Soil in Mixed Lawn
Greetings all! I'm rounding out my second season in my "new" house. The front lawn has a giant tree, so the yard is a mix of bermuda and fescue. I'm located in central OK, so our summers get HOT and our winters get COLD. The puzzling thing is that soil in my neighborhood is quite sandy, whereas almo...

Re: Rotor - Trouble Spot Next to Driveway & Spray Distance
To clarify, the above connection is a 3/4" threaded PVC connection.

Re: Rotor - Trouble Spot Next to Driveway & Spray Distance
This is an example of what is in the ground. This is not the location in question, just an example of the connection I am working with. Hoping it makes sense. Need to adapt this to a 1/2" connection, but still keep the depth below the driveway. Sorry for confusion. https://s32.postimg.cc/io0wt1j0x/I...

Re: Rotor - Trouble Spot Next to Driveway & Spray Distance
Why not just cut the pipe down? Not sure I understand which pipe you are referring to. The PVC connection in the ground has a 3/4" externally threaded connection. For some reason my rotor heads don't use a riser at all, they just connect directly to the pipe. So I couldn't really cut anything down....

Re: Rotor - Trouble Spot Next to Driveway & Spray Distance
Thanks for the tips!... I forget you can unscrew the caps and adjust that way. I honestly am considering replacing all my other rotors to Rainbird 5000's because of the slip clutch feature. I haven't started digging the particular rotor in question just yet, as I needed a game plan before I got to w...

Rotor - Trouble Spot Next to Driveway & Spray Distance
All - I've got a frustrating issue I'm trying to solve. I currently have a Rainbird 5000 parallel to my L-Shaped driveway. It is 20' from the street & driveway turn. The 5000 sprays too far, and subsequently, wide when it is set to the lowest distance. It needs to sprays in a 180° pattern. The secon...

Re: When to water?
The general idea is that you don't want to water in the day because it evaporates. Watering at night is ok for evaporation, but it may increase the chances certain lawn diseases can occur. Early early morning is generally considered best, as it won't be wet all night, and you won't lose much to evap...

Re: How to Winterize Older Sprinkler System
One of the issues I"m having with this place is that somebody put it in extensive landscaping in the back yard, but the people I bought it from were rich kids who lived here while they were in college. They didn't touch the yard ONCE from what I can tell. I'm sure the "help" just did a weekly mow, w...

Re: How to Winterize Older Sprinkler System
I suppose it could be possible, although I've taken the hose attachment off one of them because it was broken. There are two heads nearby (about 2') and water does not come out of when the system is running.

How to Winterize Older Sprinkler System
Greetings all! I recently moved into an house that has a 6 zone irrigation system. The system is older, but the PVC is working fine. The sprinkler heads themselves.... not so much :banghead: . I've spent the last couple weekends digging up almost EVERY single sprinkler head and replacing them. They ...
