Re: Sand and leveling

Thanks again Andy! I'll have to try those $1.50 bags. In the past I've always thought them to be awful (rocks, twigs...that were bigger than I thought they should be, but I guess probably doesn't matter), but I'll check with my local garden center as opposed to HD (or maybe try HD again). If I decid...

Re: Sand and leveling

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'm actually happy with what you suggested, as it seems more straightforward to use top soil and (separately) compost or peat moss, than trying to figure out which sand (or sand/soil mixture) to use.

Thanks again!

Re: Sand and leveling

Thanks for the info. This is all more than I can handle (I can do some small areas, but will otherwise have a company do it). I want to read up as much as I can so I can make sure to find the right company to do it. Andy, any advice on the soil/sand mix to use based on my soil test? https://aroundth...

Re: What's the difference between a cheap lawn tractor and a pricey one?

Thank you. I've determined that the mower in question unfortunately does not have a mulching setup nor is it able to be converted (at least not remotely easily) into a mulching deck. it's truly made to be used with the power flow bagging system. Too bad as it was otherwise a great mower but I need s...

Re: What's the difference between a cheap lawn tractor and a pricey one?

I'm looking at an x300 for sale, 4 years old, under 150 hours, original owner and comes with a power bagging system. original cost $4k I believe. what do you guys think it's worth assuming it's as good as it looks in pics? separately, i don't want to use the power bagging system, as i want to mulch ...

Re: Sand and leveling

Is there an FAQ/tutorial on this site concerning how to level a lawn? Similar to KBG, my lawn is generally flat, but definitely could be better (looks pretty flat but when riding a mower over it you immediately realize it needs some work). I'm trying to figure out if sand is best everywhere, when (i...

Thanks so much. I'm continuing to search for a mid to higher end JD (not a big box version).

Re: Poa triv re-appearing in newly seeded areas

Ok thanks. I'll see if I can pull up the patches. It's mostly small though some are bigger.

Re: Poa triv re-appearing in newly seeded areas

Going back to my original question about poa triv reappearing, is there anything I should be doing at this point in the season (i.e. round up) or just wait until the spring (now that it's freezing and it's probably not growing much if any)? I do have several bright green patches, it hasn't died/gone...

Re: What's a fair price for 50 LBs of gold tag KBG?

Thanks for the info and I'll read through that forum. My reason for wanting some now is that I was going to try a dormant seeding. No need to get into the pros/cons of a dormant seeding, I've read a few threads on it and wanted to give it a try. I thought SSS was also pricey until I learned more abo...

Re: What's a fair price for 50 LBs of gold tag KBG?

I would be getting a 50 LB bag, so hopefully a real tag? I'll contact them to confirm.

Re: STL's Backyard Transition Zone KBG Renovation

STL, do you have any final thoughts on what worked best/didn't work? Seems like the NuGlade wasn't that great perhaps? How's the Mazama?

Also, did you guy gold tag of these varieties? If so, can I ask from where?

Thanks.

Re: What's a fair price for 50 LBs of gold tag KBG?

So I was about to order from one of the companies that said they had gold tag (a company people have mentioned here many times), and he now says: "Variant on the product you buy and the lot that is assigned to the purchase, the bag you receive may or may not have the actual gold tag attached. Althou...

Re: What's a fair price for 50 LBs of gold tag KBG?

I'm finding $7 to $8/lb for gold tag (across 3 vendors). So that's $375 on average (before shipping of anywhere from $35 to $60). Maybe $/lb is higher than normal because inventory is tight right now? Might I have better luck in the spring? Or is this just what pricing is now vs. a few years ago?

What's a fair price for 50 LBs of gold tag KBG?

Excluding shipping, what should I expect to pay for a 50 LB bag of KBG? Something along the lines of Bewitched, Blueberry.. I know it will vary with variety, but should it be $5/lb, $7/lb, $10/lb...?

Thank you.
