Re: Seed Superstore - has anyone heard of them?

I wish, however, that there were a much bigger discount when you're buying the whole 50 lb bag.
It looks like SSS heard us and other people that were asking for a bigger discount on larger quantities. I just noticed today that they now have a "Drop Shipment Option" for 50-lb quantities.

Re: Retailers for Small Quantity Seed Orders

Hi, Lamarck! I'm at the other end of the scale from you, and I wound up complaining too. I was looking for a vendor that wouldn't charge me a premium when he was merely taking a 50-lb bag off of one truck and putting it into another truck to send it to me. I guess the only people that "might" be hap...

Bagged the Elusive "Emblem"

Those of you that know me from this forum or others will know that I have been on a year-long "mission from God" to locate the elusive KGB cultivar "Emblem", which won the 2005-2007 NTEP for genetic color. Nearly impossible to find. Since late summer of 2008 I have been begging for information, supp...

Re: It's warming up!

The warmer weather is right on-time - I checked the calendar:

January, February, March, March, March, June, July...

...or...

Thirty days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest hath 31, except for March, which hath 125

I was supposed to actually meet Zenroot today (first time), but he got called to Albany. I'm sure that he'll get back to you this weekend. I'll mention it to him if/when I call him.

Now we just need a model that waters the lawn Deeply and Infrequently and I can cross David off my Christmas gift list.

Re: Truegreen paid me a visit

Yeah. I was on another forum last night where a guy was reporting that a large professional service had told him that he had huge amounts of dead crabgrass. And a major infestation of Chinch bugs.

In Westport, CT.

In April.

Morph:

I find that a polite, organic approach also works to get rid of them.

Go stand and talk to them on your front-lawn about organics. Bring your coffee with you and tell them that it is Milorganite Tea. Generously offer a cup.

Re: A More Organic Creeping Charlie Control

You just visit your local Breeder Reactor and ask them for some. They are nice people and will probably have somebody from Homeland Security visit you to see if it's working.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!! I was hoping that nobody would ever find and post that article!! :banghead:  :sorry: :blackeye:  :beg: :beg: :beg: Yes, it works. But there are plants that are so sensitive to Boron that 1 ppm begins to hurt. Many plants are hurt at 2 ppm. Grass ...

Re: New Organic Broadleaf Weed Killer

I don't think that they're claiming that it is as effective as 2,4-D, but if you don't want to (or aren't allowed to) use 2,4-D this might appear to be a godsend. I saw a one-page university test result somewhere that said 2,4-D beat it, but that it put a hurting on dandelions in 3-4 weeks. Unfortun...

New Organic Broadleaf Weed Killer

I bumped into, and then researched a new "bioherbicide" Sarritor, that was developed for broadleaf weeds. Apparently the ban on 2,4-D in Ontario, Canada prompted development and release of a commonly-occurring soil fungus into a broadleaf weed killer. They don't have the production fully ramped-up y...

Re: A Tale of Two Lawns, part 2

I think the lawn's greener already...which I guess is faintly possible since boron can foliar absorb.

Re: A Dumb Question

It's a valid question, not a dumb one. P and K are pretty long-lived in everything but very sandy soils. The only thing that will remove them quickly is removing grass clippings that have P and K in them. I know you're not doing that. So, what could it be? A million things. Your samples (I hope you ...

Re: A Tale of Two Lawns, part 2

One-man's opinion: I think using softened water is a disaster. I've seen shallow watering actually cause crusts in mid-summer (no, it's not David's lawn).

Re: A Tale of Two Lawns, part 2

You seem to really be careful with supplements and understand what "trace" means, so bump the B a bit if you'd like - but I'd go slow and target 0.8 in two years, with a self-promise to test in both of the next two years. Why do you think the salts are coming from irrigation? Are you using softened ...

Re: A Tale of Two Lawns, part 2

Morph: OK - put the Lime bags down and step away. Where's the Sulfur coming from? Start to keep an eye on the salts. Wow - the K !!!! There's less K at a KKK convention. Same as the other lawn on the B and Fe. Milwaukee is gonna love you. With a buffer pH of 7.1, I think you may stay on the high sid...

Re: A Tale of Two Lawns, part 1

Morph: Actually, I'm a little surprised... I was expecting a much higher OM. Something like 109%. About the B: that's actually pretty low, but I'd just put it in the back of my mind and hopefully keep it there. Eyes open for a problem, but if things are going OK, leave well enough alone. Abo...
