Central NJ Soil Test
My mom has 7k sqft of lawn at her house in Central NJ. She seeded the 1.5k backyard with a mix of red fescue, perennial ryegrass and kbg. We think the 5.5k front is 75% zoysia, since it is brown for most of the year, and 25% is the seed mix from the backyard. She doesn't irrigate but mows high regul...

Re: Serenade Sale
I received mine just now. The lot # is: LJEL000622. In comparison, the bottle I bought at my local garden center a month ago is: LJEL000895. Does that mean the Amazon stuff is older and should be used first? I'm not sure what it means but the 2 I received are from lot # LJEL000765. Nothing appears ...

Where in CT are you? I checked Home Depot and they seem to have 50+ in stock at every store in CT.

Sprayed kelp help and BLSC then installed my new hour meter/tachometer on my toro 22" recycler and raised the rpm back up to 3000. I couldn't believe it was only running at 2000. I can't wait to see how much fun mowing will be now.

Re: Alex's Spring 2017 Soil Test
Ok so I spoke too soon. Home Depot doesn't have 18-0-18 listed on their web site anymore. I called agway in Morristown, NJ and Port Jeff, NY but neither could order for me. I saw on here that green valley in Norwalk, CT has it but when I called the girl didn't know and never called me back. I'll try...

No I didn't factor that difference in :banghead: How much difference does a sampling depth difference of 1" make. Does that basically eliminate my OM and TEC increase? Either way I'm considering it good progress! Organic matter will be at the top of my list for a long time. Egg shells, apple skins, ...

Alex's Spring 2017 Soil Test
This is my second year soil test and from what I can tell most things are moving in the right direction! I'm going to start BLSC and kelp help this year. The lawn is about 14-15k sqft which I believe to be mostly red fescue, perennial ryegrass, and kentucky bluegrass. For the last year I've been mul...

What grass type is this?
My mom just moved into a new house in northern NJ. I think the previous owner seeded some of the lawn with warm season grass and the rest with cool season. The center of the yard is brown and dormant while the perimeter is green. We think the brown part is some kind of warm season grass. We don't ha...

Re: Garnden soil ok to plant new grass in?
If the fertilizer is an issue in the miraclegro stuff, Home Depot by me has this 40lb bag of top soil with no fertilizer for $1.79. I'm planning to use it to level out some areas of my yard.

I realize I may be the only one interested in this, but I checked my soil temp just now. I'm in northern NJ and the current 5 pm temp is 59 F. The soil temp in the sunny front yard is about 48 F. The depth of the temp probe didn't seem to matter greatly, maybe less than a half degree the lower I we...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Threw down some seed today in the bare spots. Bare spots are from late fall when I did the first step of triangle approach. Snow is in the forecast so I'm hoping it will push the seed into the soil nicely.

This wasn't a true renovation and more of a rehab but I want to share my results so far. I certainly didn't do everything the right way but it still looks like I'm heading in the right direction. I learned a lot this year and I'm very excited to see what next year will bring! I know some of you guys...

Looking at the extended forecast, 11/30 looks like a good rain event. Anyone else on Long Island eye balling this date for the winterizer application? As a first timer, I think I am on the right track. But confirmation from people in the know always helps. DeanLI, I was also thinking of dropping ur...

https://www.ces.ncsu.edu/fletcher/staff/rbir/blackwalnutcompanions.html I have a lot of black walnut trees and have been researching what would grow well under them, what might be able to climb them, etc - they exude substances that harm certain plants. Turns out, it looks like they might help KBG ...

Re: BayState Fertilizer - Cheap Milorganite Alternative
I was just up in Boston for work the other day and picked up 15 bags of BayState on the way back. Special thanks to tlinden for posting his YouTube video on how to get to Carl and the pick up location. It made the whole adventure go that much smoother. I also forgot my check book but luckily Carl ta...
