Re: Wilson - Soil Test - Logan Labs

I was hoping for some ideas on how to get started improving my lawn/ soil. Welcome to the site! Looks like a reasonable soil - not bad organic content (OM of 3.05) with lots of potential. However, it's a bit short on both Phosphorus and Potassium, so it is likely that applications of a balanced fer...

Re: Weed Indentification - Possible lawn reno?

I have a weed that has taken hold in my front yard (also the back - but first things first). Can anyone identify it for me and some guidance on control or eradication without killing existing grass would be so much appreciated. I don't recognize it. However, the fact that it doesn't look like one o...

Just FYI, my favorite article on grub treatment and prevention is on the Michigan State University Extension site. They update the article each year - follow the link to go to this year's version: http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/how_to_cho ... _your_lawn

Where do you guys get your Tenacity. It looks like 8oz goes for $62 online. How much do you guys pay? Best price I was able to find last fall was $61.50 with free shipping at http://lawnandpestcontrolsupply.com/products/tenacity-herbicide Looks like the price currently is $60.90 with free shipping.

Re: Bewitched suppliers

Research: Williams Lawn Seed : 10 lbs = $62.50 + $45 shipping = $107.50 That shipping price seems really high. I purchased 15 pounds of Bewitched from Williams Lawn Seed in November 2014. Price was $118.75 total to New Hampshire. (15# at $6.25 = $93.75 + $25 shipping = $118.75). Did you ask for ove...

I broke down and bought one of these.. Very easy to use! In hindsight I should have sent in a soil test the other day when I got it.. but now its snowing again!! Glad to hear that the tool worked out for you, too! I'm still going to have to wait a couple of weeks for the ground to thaw before colle...

Re: Irrigation System Spring 2015

Well I just got the quote back from the first installer. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect since this was the first quote, but it came in at $5,600. That sounds expensive to me. Some more details on our 33-rotor 7-zone system to cover 12,500 sqft can be found in this post . Our installer wasn't ...

Re: gas:oil mixture question

The 40:1 has more oil in the gas/oil mix than the 50:1 will. As such, the 40:1 oil will provide increased lubrication as compared to a 50:1 mixture. Manufacturers are switching from old ratios such as 25:1, 32:1, and 40:1 to 50:1 because the 50:1 ratio results in cleaner exhaust, so it is easier to ...

Re: FrayedEnd's 2015 Soil Analysis

Is there a way to address the excess Potassium, aside from not adding to the issue, that might help with the fight against snow mold in the future? I can't say how much damage it did, but the lawn was covered with it this year. From what I've read, the potassium level alone doesn't encourage snow m...

I do that in the spring, too. I try to do it when the neighbors aren't watching!

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Wow, I can hardly fathom that signs of spring are really starting to be seen in other parts of the nation. Winter is pretty much in full swing here in New Hampshire. Our highest temperature in the last 15 days was 35F (and that was the only day above freezing.) No sign of the ground, either, with 10...

I think a rewrite, properly attributed, is a great idea. +1 I'd actually like to see a cool season article like this too +1 Along those lines, some of the existing (old) articles have outdated information in them that could stand to be updated (like the article that says to just send your soil test...

1) Alpa Chemicals sent me the copper sulfate in crystals form, and they look to be good sized rocks, like what would be in a salt grinder on the table. Are these too big? I plan on using Milorganite to spread the foursome. Looking at their website, Alpha Chemicals has two different copper sulfate p...

Re: Equipment Winter Storage Tips

Speaking of the snow blower... mine started up first pull last week. I was really shocked because when I first got it from my father-in-law last year, I had a heck of time starting it. I had no idea how he stored it. I'm pretty sure he didn't do anything and just parked it in the garage. I had to u...

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Walked around the snow-covered yard picking up the bigger fallen branches and tossed them into the woods. The grass is definitely nice and green under the snow. Maybe all the 8-10 inches of snow will melt away in these next few days with some rain showers to help speed along the snow melt. The groun...

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Went outside for the first time in days. The plow guy thought my lawn was part of the driveway and made one pass through it. Now I have a 8 ft wide by 30 ft long patch of dirt on my lawn. They need to invent seed that will grow under snow cover. Ouch. I've been frustrated about 1 to 2 feet of plow ...
