Re: DevilDawg81’s New Lawn - Fall 2021
You will probably ge a fair amount of weeds from the straw, but the first frost should get a lot of them. Then the ones left in the spring should be easy to pick off.

Re: Babe Ruth Baseball Field. 80K
DevilD I don't know what I've gotten myself unto. I guess I'll try it out this fall. It woul be nice to have a couple of people to help me. Wish you were closer too. For the record I sprayed clover and broadleaves with Triclopyr today. I checked out the blades on their rider and push mower. Blunt is...

Re: Babe Ruth Baseball Field. 80K
edslawn I wish I could fill the trenches now and plug or seed them... but there is a five week fall season starting this coming weekend, so i think I'll just put down 1/4 of an inch and water it in. Soil test will get sent in this week. Can sod be put down and then played on the next day or two? Dev...

Babe Ruth Baseball Field. 80K
One of my sons coaches a Babe Ruth team. The person that was managing the turf quit, and it appears that I have inherited the project. The field is in rough shape. There is lots of dead brown grass which I think partly reflects a steril non existent microherd. I think it is 80 K. I don't believe tha...

Re: Any thoughts on what's killing my lawn again
I had a perennial rye lawn in my former house. It doesn't take the heat well. Literally in August it would look like yellow straw. Once the temperatures dropped and it started raining in the fall it would look beautifull again. My experience was it looked great except the last week of july and all o...

Re: Bazil’s 2022 Lawn Renovation
I'm going to say that you shoulds take care of your erosion issues first then reseed. The erosion issues won't heal themselves. Worst case scenario is that you will have to winter dormant seed, and that isn't that big of a deal. Get some erosion blankets and put them down so your sloped or non slope...

Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
I've been enjoying the priviledge of well water. I have a hose and one of those sprinklers that goes back and forth and have been giving the dry spots an inch lately ( takes three hours). This is the third week with no rain. The tomatoes get as much water as they want as well.

Re: Separating grass/weeds from Dirt pile
I have hardware cloth 1/4 mounted on two 2 x 4 's. They hang down on each side of my wheelbarrow. I put the dirt on top and work it through with gloved hands. What doesn't go through goes back in the original pile.

If you go with KBG, the Mazama is very good in shady areas, as well as sunny. KBG is slow moving freight, it grows little by little, often sideways before it grows upward. If you seed down August 15th and have a way to water it, it will be well established by November. If you need an insta-lawn for ...

Re: Tenacity
My experince is that Tenacity is very effective against Poa Annua, Poa Trivialis, and Nimblewill and some Fescues. I wouldn't use it as first line of defence against anything else. I'm in the Midwest, maybe in other parts of the country there are a few more species it is good for. I guess it is effe...

ken-n-nancy "I use a gas-powered rotary walk-behind mower, so I usually actually get all these "not like the others" plants while mowing -- it doesn't even add much time to the exercise of mowing, and I just toss the pulled plant onto the unmowed grass, so it gets mulched in immediately -- I don't e...

Some have do...

Re: 'New' House, New Lawn Renovation Continued 2021
Temperature wise we are having a nice summer with lots of rain. This is my first renovation and I continue to be surprised as the KBG continues to fill in. For those reading this contemplating a renovation, I want to say a few things. Last year was a droughty, hot summer. I started with roundup fair...
