Mowed, trimmed, edged. The tractor I use to mulch finally died I think.

Re: Likeasponge Food Plot 2019

Good deal! I hunt and I planted clover and apple trees to help without introducing non native species.

They also feast on the acorns.

On the area I hunt there is so much food I'm not sure it helps all that much, so I just try to supply something different.

Still mowing weekly.

Put out FAS, triclopyr, urea, lots of mulching over the last week or so.

Re: Questions about mulching vs bagging vs throwing

You need to mow often enough that you aren't taking off that much. Yes, if your machine mulches moderately well, you will not have to worry about blade buildup on the surface. In the rare scenario where you are gone on vacation etc and have to take off a lot at once, a double cut with mulching blade...

Re: Compare and save glyphosphate

FWIW, I tried some 15-20 year old glyphosate out on some sidewalk plants and it did jack squat. It had been stored in an unconditioned garage in Indiana.

Re: Lawn companies apparently love fertilizing during the pause

I see the opposite around here. They stop fertilizing too soon, often. Maybe it's the difference in local law re: Nitrogen??

Here, our soil doesn't lend itself to leaching many nutrients so applying fertilizer in late November isn't a big problem.

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

Cant split hairs. I've never had perfect timing. A few days ago I put down urea, then applied FAS and triclopyr. Grass definitely growing and no frost yet but it's coming. On the later side of the pause here traditionally but I think the turf needed it and little risk of frost killing new growth rn

So hot I haven't been able to do more than one app of urea. But this weekend should be high of 60 plus.

Re: Grub Destruction - Recovery?

Yikes that is bad. For the thin areas apply small doses of N regularly and water to nurse it back. For the bare areas, preach the benefits of grubex to your neighbor for next year, and reseed or preferably sod it this late of you can match it. Jscar up the surface a lot to take out the pre emergent....

Wait until they ask you how you take care of your lawn so well, then offer short, to the point, simple advice.

Unfortunately many view lawns as a competition so they are reticent to be tutored.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Mowing and trimming. Watering. Heat came back on full force the last 2 weeks and no rain until today.

I need to get a fall fungicide down, blanket spray for clover, and resume fertilization when the temps lower.

Re: First time home / lawn owner - first reno attempt

24d will kill the foliage but a better herbicide is something like triclopyr that takes it's time and kills the bulb. Use a surfactant to get it to stick using a fine spray. No need to paint it on then.
