Re: Ez's Lawn Renovation-Going to pull the trigger.
I am in a similar situation as you EZ. My area was composed of corn and soybean fields as well prior to being developed. My plan is to reno the sides and front yard this year due to time and budget constraints. Unlike you I do have neighbors though and they believe I am insane when I told them yeste...

What are some of the gripes with bedazzled? I'm not sure what Glenn meant by bedazzled/boutique, I'll try to find out today. He also stated that they recommend 4-5lbs per 1000sqft, most sources I read recommend 3lbs per 1000. Not a problem, I would just be concerned about seeding too much at one ti...

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Orbit-Tripod-Sprinkler/8587380 This is a fantastic sprinkler I purchased last year. I have low water pressure outside and it worked very well. The tripod allows a lot of flexibility and it puts down a fair volume of water quickly and distributes it evenly. I was also able t...

Ok, thanks Morph and Simpson. Appreciate the info. Just want to get this done with rain, irrigation or both so I can keep the project running on track and things are getting done at the correct time intervals.

Re: Overseed with darker seed
How much water do you need to revive a dormant lawn so you can then kill it? Would in inch of water be enough to green it up so you could then apply roundup?

Looks like I will be in the same boat. Watering to awaken grass only to kill it off. Ironic.

Re: Recommendation for Renovators
Good point. I was thinking that killing this dormant grass might be a problem. Is there a better way to do it than using roundup? It is extremely brown. Or, is the best option to green it up again thru irrigation and then try the roundup? Or, is my approach wrong and should I just overseed into the ...

Lawn is virtually 100% brown. High temps and no rain for about a month. Accuweather says rain expected 7-6-11 so we will wait and see.

Not very familiar with zoysia and warm season grasses so this is interesting. Congrats on your results after the hard work.

Re: Recommendation for Renovators
I can look at dead grass a long time. It virtually appears dead now anyway. As a result of high temps and little rain it is extremely brown and may actually be dead already at least in several areas.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Recommendation for Renovators
For a renovation in late August what is the recommended kill date for the existing lawn? Late July / early August? I was considering overseeding into an old kbg lawn but from what I have read it looks like the recommendation is to kill the old lawn first in order to get the best results. Thanks for ...

HanLawn,
The woman who lives next to me is clueless about her tall weeds. She asked me a few weeks ago, "Are those weeds on your side of the fence or mine?"
I can't tell you how many times I have had to go over there and help her adjust her trimmer.

Re: August compost and overseed process
+1 for the Nelson misting sprinkler. I used a similar version last year and one of my neighbors went and got it for his yard project this fall. The version I got had a rotating top so you can control the size and shape of the spray pattern. This is excellent for side yards or oddly shaped configurat...

Lot of divorced women in my neighborhood. They either mow too short and too frequently or let it go far too long until they have to cut it. Can drive me nuts.
Would be nice if they moved into apartments.

Last fall when I was dropping my winterizer a woman walking down the sidewalk saw me and chirped, "Overkill!" I guess she felt compelled to comment although you would think she could see the results and figure it out. Can you let us know the results of the Soil Moist and how it performs? I will try ...

Ok - will try the "seed coating fine" version. What's one more product I guess. My neighbors already think I am over the top. I like the concept though. Can't wait to see the reaction when they find out about this stuff...and they thought the Milorganite and peat moss was over the top.... "He's putt...
