Re: Soil test Starpartyguy September 2019

SPG since you have urea and iron sulfate, you now have the ingredients to make spray iron applications. Theres a good article on it above. It's a great way to get a nice green on your turf that grows out. Dont apply it on seedlings until sprout n pout is done, but on the mature lawn it will make it ...

Re: September damage every year. Stumped

Yeah looks more like insect damage than fungus to me too. Looks pretty wet. I have low lying areas that die out of they get swamped in the spring

Re: Help diagnosing yellowing KBG

Yeah too wet. Go to deep and infrequent watering and let it dry out. Treat with fungicide for good measure if you like.

The 18 24 12 is fine. Goes down at 4 lbs per K. Theres a decent amount of K in there so keep it 2 weeks from the lime for sure.

They have it as a feed supplement. Actually called iron sulfate. $34/50 lb.
That's what I buy. Good stuff.

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)

Dylox is fine now.

Hard freeze is not when turf stops growing.

Lots of assumptions in those videos a newer lawn nut may not pick up on yet.

It's about how many days are left to grow in the season.

If you have insect damage I'd treat now. Dylox etc. You wont get a chance to reseed this fall

Re: Help diagnosing yellowing KBG

That pick at the top looks like it came in pretty thick. Maybe too thick. Back off the watering. Some Chlorosis. Might have encouraged fungus. I doubt its out of sprout n pout yet, so that fertilizer was probably too early. It can push top growth too soon. Water it once a day, then every other day, ...

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)

6 weeks of growth isn't much time. You may get lots of winter kill amd need to replan to overseed depending on how things look come spring. Check in then.

Even decent coverage is fine, it can be encouraged and fill in really well. Big bare spots are more of an issue.

Soil test is in. Just posted today in appropriate forum. Will wait for recommendations. Got next week off.
Got it. I'd make seed down my priority. See the post

Re: September damage every year. Stumped

Other possible causes are wear and tear from mowing equipment turning amd driving the same patterns, debris under the soil, downspouts and pooling water, or perhaps over application of herbicides if you follow a pattern and use a pull behind.

Re: September damage every year. Stumped

By the house, beds, and driveway are where I normally get more grubs too. At this point I would suspect fungus or lingering damage from grubs. Could be a localized soil issue too. Get some pics up. If its grub damage or just thinned out, nurse it back to health with more frequent, light watering and...

Re: Soil test Starpartyguy September 2019

Hey there, star party guy! The soil has work to do but it has great potential. You should be able to get going this fall on some things. The TEC indicates a soil that is sandier at TEC 6.42. It may leach some nutrients and not hold moisture as well, so tweak the watering as needed. The good news is ...

Re: Lawn Mower Hight For Fall

I used a timemaster on a high maintenance level KBG monostand for several years and didnt like the cut under two inches much. Main thing is dont lower too fast and start earlier thsn you think to get it really low, like late August. Otherwise you end up bogging the machine down and making it ugly fo...

Thanks Hoosier. I did not know about Tenacity at day 60. Aslo, when you say light, frequent N, I assume you mean non-coated, maybe 46-0-0 at 1lb/k?
Reread my post re: Tenacity and a real pre emergent, two different things.

Yeah, like urea 46 0 0. Water it in.

Tractor supply didn't have it. A search found that Walmart sells 46-0-0 Urea for $62 for 50 lbs. Be here in a week.
I totally get that when you need it you need it. Do some shopping when time isn't so pressing you can find it for 20ish a 50lb bag.

My guess is the iron content. Soundgro has 0.55% iron and Milo has 2.5% iron. My lawns high PH needs that chelated iron for greening.
That makes sense. Milo has 5x the iron.

Probably a good product for those that want the other nutrients other than Iron, especially if it can be had for less.

Re: How Organic in the Garden are you

I grow roses and haven't had luck unless I do some synthetic feedings, insecticides, and fungicides every year. The beetles and fungal pressures are real.

I use a lot of milo, and top dress with compost and peat moss.

I remove sawfly larvae with my fingers.
