Re: HoosierLawnGnome renovation 2013

Question: I have a week in August where I will be out of town, and nobody will be around to monitor the lawn. If I do a total renovation, should I drop seed BEFORE I go, and trust the sprinklers to do their thing, or wait until I return. It's about the worst possible week schedulewise, but it can't ...

Re: Clueless first time home owner

I was in the same mindset - thought I needed a bunch of specific samples and thought I had WAY more clay than I really did.

Re: Saying its "Fighting terrorism" can get you anything

Does anyone else recognize the self-defeating belief that by giving up liberty you can protect it? We need to turn that tables on those that would take liberty from others, and drive them to alter their lifestyle to protect freedom instead of altering our lifestyle to accommodate tyranny in its many...

Re: GWLBE Spring Soil Test

http://s11.postimg.cc/716do1wgv/IMG_8972.jpg I took this pix this morning of an area I'm working on. This is what my subsoil looks like. I've always assumed it was clay. It's tight sticky soil, keep shampooing to loosen it? I applied alfalfa pellets the other night. I plan on adding another app of ...

Re: Saying its "Fighting terrorism" can get you anything

Give me liberty or give me death!

I'm tired of our freedoms being chipped way out by the fear mongers.

There is no such thing as safety. I prefer the tempestuous sea of liberty.

Re: eBay ethics opinion

You aren't being a friend to him or others out there if you don't give them an honest rating. If you try to cover or make up for it, you're accepting their consequences and giving people and inaccurate view of this person's business with you. In short, you would be doing the very thing he's done to ...

Re: HoosierLawnGnome's 2013 Soil Test

The granulated SOP is arriving tomorrow, and I should have the Zinc on hand by the weekend.

Any issue with me applying it all at once? Should I space it out some?

We've had on and off rain this week, so I'd love to get it down ASAP.

Re: New home owner needs lots of help

Welcome to the site! I was a new homeowner myself, 12 years ago. I should have renovated it then and there, no questions asked. It took years to get grass to even grow acceptably. So, if I were you, I'd do it the right way the first time and save yourself years of headaches - which for me should hav...

Ever wondered what happens when...

you mail grass seed via USPS????

This is what you get:

I sent a fellow user a self addressed, stamped envelope, and when I got it in the mail, it was cut in half.

They probably thought it was marijuana.

On how many square feet?
7,500

ETA: Total of 32 lbs applied - some of it went into "non-lawn" areas like beds, shrub lines, etc.

Re: HoosierLawnGnome's 2013 Soil Test

OK - I ended up going to Meijer to pick up my stuff and they only had 11-22-10 starter fertilizer.

So, 11-22-10 is what I have.

Should I apply the Borax/Zinc Sulfate/Copper Sulfate with the starter fertilizer? Or should I apply it with milorganite?
