Re: A Horrible Thought...

a not-very-direct way of assessing health. Oh, how I disagree!!! When combined with density measurements and root mass measurements, Brix is an excellent indicator of the overall health of the grass plant. Here's the issue: you go out and get a soil test and we advise you to add more Potassium. Iro...

Wally: Be careful - it sounds like you're mixing up the application rates for "WBG Max" and "WBG Max plus Crabgrass Control". Your posting says "WBG Max", which has an application rate of 2 oz/gallon/500sqft. The rate you posted is correct for "WBG Max plus Crabgrass Control". It seems that folks on...

Re: Rose Agriseed Summer Lawn Plus Turned Brown!!!

I will be putting lime down by the end of this week for sure but I have a buddy that told me that Sam's Club has a $12 bag of lime that covers 6500 square feet has anyone heard of this? Cranberry, PLEASE be careful. Do not take the attitude that "lime is lime". You need CALCITIC lime now. The good ...

Re: Surfactant for Certainty

For me, the grass stopped growing after about 5 days. At 7-8 days the yellowing started. At 12-14 days, I could notice the Poa T thinning out quickly. It continued to the 3-week mark for me.

Re: Surfactant for Certainty

Oh, Dave - I hear you!!! I remember the yellow caution tape (so I wouldn't lose track of where I was) and the sore arms from the 2-gallon tank across 20,000 sq ft like it was yesterday. You don't understand this yet, but you will celebrate the lawn turning yellow in a week or so!

4 days for the Serenade treatment - I think it's working. I'll mow tomorrow (it's growing like gangbusters) to be sure, but it really looks like the PM is receding.

His IP location is almost 500 miles away from TPSL, so he'd have a long commute.
Yeah, I guess. Maybe our Frank knows the other Frank, who is the President of TPSL and also owns a home in Red Oak, TX - 500 miles away.

Re: Soil Test Results; Plano, TX (TPSL results on pg 3)

Are my micro nutrients ok? The TPSL test has them in the 'Poor' range. TPSL doesn't print out the micronutrient levels, so if all I had were TPSL's charts to go on, I'd say "put down the amount to make it better". Is that annoying to you? Well, it's annoying to those of us that read the results. Ho...

Re: Surfactant for Certainty

On most products, I would say "Eh - go with what you have". But Certainty is too expensive and fragile in its application rates. Get one that doesn't specify, or uses the word "nonionic".

Re: Surfactant for Certainty

Unless they have reformulated it, Dawn is a combination of anionic and nonionic surfactants.

A side note: many of the "ultra dawn" products are antibacterial. Don't use any antibacterial products on your lawn.

Re: Whole Milk Application (Pasteurized)

Gary: Good question. I guess it all depends upon what it is that you're thinking causes the "milk effect". The effect is too strong to be attributed to the composition/nutrients in the milk itself. If you're betting on bacteria, then maybe the buttermilk is a player. If you're betting on Enzymes, th...

We already requested Structure and Perc tests.

The Over/Under line is set at 25 minutes for the perc hole. House take is 98% of all bets.

Re: Rose Agriseed Summer Lawn Plus Turned Brown!!!

I hope there's an alternative to the 50#/1k lime recommendation. That would be 4500 lbs. of lime!!!
50 lbs Dolomitic/Ksqft? That wouldn't even put a dent in the shortfall.

Re: Rose Agriseed Summer Lawn Plus Turned Brown!!!

Sorry to say, I can find nothing redeeming about that soil test. The pH is way too low, the CEC is the one of the lowest I have ever seen, the base saturations are extremely low, and whatever nutrients were in the soil have been used up. There appears to be some Nitrogen available, but the entire ca...

Re: Pictures of my weeds - have fun

With the exception of the first picture, it is pretty difficult to make out the details of individual grassy weeds. However, there is tall fescue in there and several cultivars of Grassus Crappus. The KBG is reasonably healthy-looking though. I'd take the approach to hit it twice (three weeks apart ...

Re: Gbig2's soil test results, you called it Morpheus!

I'd like to see the OM go up, but on an acre lot that's not very realistic. Lies! Damned Lies! Statistics! David and BP lectured me for years about the need for me to up the OM and go organic. I told them that it wasn't possible on an acre - and I had the math to prove it. Then I tried it for a yea...

ARGGGGGH!!!! I'm such an Idiot. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I see why the Baking Soda application probably didn't work for me this time - my card with the mixture didn't specify to add surfactant and I didn't even think when I mixed and applied it.
