Re: Gregt848’s 2023 soil test
Epsom salt and potassium sulfate can go the same day as the liming if you want. For high-N fertilizer, I'm content with any fertilizer where the first number is way higher than anything else. So 46-0-0, 27-0-5, 36-2-2, something along those lines. If it looks like 20-0-10, that's fine too. A little ...

Re: Suspected poa triv not lighting up (white) from Tenacity
I don't even want to tell you how old my Tenacity is (actually, I bought it the first year it was available; I still have about 1 Tbsp left in the jar). So far, I haven't found a use-by date that's actually applicable.

For 10-10-10, that would be 10 pounds per thousand.
You'll find the granular crystals kind of hard to use. I'd try for copper sulfate powder. Alternately, if you have the ability to grind the crystals to powder (they're a LOT harder than you think they are), that might work.

Fed it--a tad early, but it's organic. Dropped the GrubEx for the season. Did the second sharpening on the lawnmower blades. Realized I've misplaced the 100-grit diamond sharpener and I have no idea where it is...

That. And I'm not too confident of an AI making decent decisions about it for a long time, either...I've seen what it's done in the art world so far. Half the time I'm balancing half a dozen interlocks in my head and kind of saying to myself, "Meh, I don't like that...throw that one out in favor of ...

Re: Dabeevm25 2013 Soil Test
Well, there's a soil with an interesting personality. It's a bad personality, but an interesting one nonetheless. The back lacks calcium (but has enough magnesium), the front lacks magnesium (but has an excess of calcium), both lack potassium (in differing amounts). Both lack phosphorus. Boron and c...

You can certainly try another light shot, but it's most likely simply not P. triv. It should be turning ghostly pale after 2 weeks.

Re: JPack's Soil Test Results - 2023
Yep. I just ditched 18 per K fast calcitic in the gardens per K. Let's not talk about that. The daffodil are running scared. (Everything's actually just fine; I was at a pH of 5.6, there was no bleaching to speak of, and I won't start to plant the summer gardens until late next week at the earliest).

Re: JPack's Soil Test Results - 2023
The ME of the soil is very high, this is a way to kick it along faster. If it works, we may continue this next year, or I may even recommend stepping it up further, if possible. In a perfect world--I know, I know--the sulfur would wash some magnesium out as Epsom salt while the calcium binds with th...

Re: JPack's Soil Test Results - 2023
Yeah, I'm thinking not due to the balance of sulfates (and I've dumped up to thirty pounds per thousand without impact, but I'm known to be daring). Alrighty then. So maybe do it in late April. If it causes bleaching, step it back for July and September to 5-7 pounds per thousand square feet. Bleach...

Re: Best Grass For Low pH Soil?
I'm eternally counterintuitive. Go deep on most of our soils in the Northeast and you'll hit limestone. Nope, older grasses are still bred grasses, but not to the levels of more modern ones. I'm hoping that throwing a bit more of a mix of types at it will help, with older types that feature a bit mo...

Re: JPack's Soil Test Results - 2023
I'm seriously considering something crazy. You may want to get a cross-check from Andy on this one because it's a little...crazy. Your lawn is gigantic, so this is merely a suggestion. If it stretches the budget, step it back. No harm, no foul. What I'm seeing is a shortage of calcium, excessive mag...

Re: BD13 soil test 2021
As per the Humic DG, I'm fine with it and it can be applied in spring if you wish. Gypsum, no--it's a calcium sulfate, which you don't need.
At this point, I'd shift over to starter fertilizer; 19-19-19 will have potassium you simply don't require and that will mis-balance the soil.

Re: CT Trees
That's about the size-change of it. Or, why I chose potted small Thuja Green Giants, planted in mid-April (for you, the equivalent date would be around May first), kept damp and gently fed, and started stepping the feeding up in June. Growth actually started the first year, but I didn't get more tha...

Liquid on one, solid on the other. (As a mental fifth grader, I find this conversation deeply amusing).
Milo, containing some fast N and some slow N, and a derivative of human doo, will doo, er, do just fine.

Re: AndyV 2023 Soil Test
It would be fine (April's wearing away fast!) but if you held it until May, that's also just fine. Milo's one of those things I drop around May first, and we're already pushing that date, hard though it is to believe. The micros won't significantly interact with anything else, certainly not the calc...

Re: BD13 soil test 2021
Close enough. I'll read your 2023 one here. You no longer need the 10-10-10, but if you still have some left you can use it up rather than waste it. After that, switch to starter fertilizer as you're still a bit short on phosphorus--the target will be around 200. Magnesium is a bit short. For that, ...

Deer Theory sounds good. You'll note the...differential...in color within the spot itself; it's not so great in the middle, fantastic in the center. Watch a deer...deposit...some time. It's not as spotty as dogs. And it's spring. The soil's wet, the air and soil are cold, burn is unlikely. But it do...

Anything you can get in a bag at the big box store won't be a hybrid and will be an older cultivar. They tend to feature poorer performance across the board...but also don't tend to be particularly choosy in terms of specific soils. Now that we know Bales is dealing with a sand for soil, we can also...
