Re: Creeping Bentgrass (or is it?)

Hmm. Do you think it could be creeping bentgrass and it didn't turn white, but instead just died?

Creeping Bentgrass (or is it?)

I have a few sections in my back yard that I was positive was creeping bentgrass. However, after hitting it with Tenacity a few times, it's not turning the traditional white. Rather, it's just dying. Perhaps it's not bentgrass and instead is just more poa triv going dormant? Or something else? Or st...

Re: Is .09% weed seed acceptable?

You have to ask for "Sod Quality" or "Gold Tag". Anything else is taking the vendor's word for it. Can you clarify this for me? Are you saying that a 'regular' seed tag (not sold quality or gold tag) isn't 'official' / doesn't mean the bag really has 0 weed (even if it says 0)? One company emailed ...

Re: Is .09% weed seed acceptable?

Thanks, and I do see on the seedsuperstore that 100% Bewitched has 0/0. But their shady mix has .01 and sunny mix has the .12 other. Maybe it's harder to find a mix that's 0 and 0? On a separate note, given my PR/KBG/FF lawn, what do you think I should overseed with (probably next fall as I'm runnin...

Re: Is .09% weed seed acceptable?

Thanks again, and I'm wondering if you have thoughts/can advise on where to buy good seed with 0 weeds? I know that Hogan has weed free (but they don't have a mix with PR, which I think I need at this point as my existing lawn has PR, and I think just going with TTTF/KBG might be an odd mix, as the ...

Re: Is .09% weed seed acceptable?

The days keep ticking by in the seeding window... Is .09% weed seed too much? Only you can answer that. There are 1.4 million seeds in a pound of KBG (average). That means that if you seed at 2.5 lbs/K, you'll be seeding 1,400,000 * .0009 * 2.5 weed seeds per 1000 sq ft, or 3,150 weeds per 1000 sq ...

Is .09% weed seed acceptable?

Or is no amount of weed seed ever 'acceptable'? One of the online seed companies that I've seen recommended (I'll withhold the name for now, not sure why, just don't want to bash them), has a decent price on Wild Horse Kentucky Bluegrass, but it has .09% weed seed. Is this simply a no-brainer and I ...

Re: What should I do? Bentgrass/poa annua & triv :(

Correction to what I posted; I use 1/2 tsp/gallon (matching the 1 tsp/2 gallon that you mentioned. I guess I should mark off 1,000 sq ft and use the whole gallon in that area. That will give me an idea of how much I should be spraying (when I walk the yard and spot spray smaller areas). Correct? Tha...

Re: What should I do? Bentgrass/poa annua & triv :(

Understood and thanks for your comments.

Concerning tenacity on bentgrass, using a 1 gallon sprayer (1 tsp/gallon), should I be dousing the bentgrass, or just a moderate spray?

Re: Poa Triv - what would you do if you were me?

Thanks Andy. Sorry if I keep asking this same question; but I'm confused as to whether I should follow 9.1.1 (control in creeping bentgrass, which is the 3 apps of .25) or 9.2.2 (which is control in KBG, and is 2 apps of .50). It mentions PR at the beginning (of 9.0), but then doesn't really mention...

Re: Poa Triv - what would you do if you were me?

Sorry, if this is a duplicate, but I didn't see my follow-up question go live yet:

I realize that I have mostly PR and KBG. Is it therefore ok to use the Certainty (as it shouldn't be a big deal if it kills off what little TTTF I have)?

Thanks again!

Some grass samples I planted this spring

Back in April I planted these samples. I've applied a little bit of Milorganite now and then, nothing else. From left to right, top row and then bottom row: Lesco Sun & Shade | Greenview TTTF Sun & Shade | Lesco All Pro Transition | (Newly planted) Greenview KBG Jon Green Sun & Shade | Greenview TTT...

Re: Poa Triv - what would you do if you were me?

Thanks for the clarification. Question, when should I put down Scotts starter with mesotrione in relation to reseeding? Before, during, after...? I'll continue to spot spray with tenacity as well (before/during/after seeding), so it might not really matter when I put the scotts down, but just wanted...

Re: What type of grasses are these?

Here's a test cup that I did. I think it looks great. When I use it on my lawn, it usually works pretty well too, though doesn't look quite as good as the test cup. Not sure it helps you with JumpStart though...

I like to cut the dead grass short (1-1.5in) and leave the rest to protect and hold the seed in place.
Hmm. i like the sound of that. easier than raking out and useful!

Re: Poa Triv - what would you do if you were me?

A couple of comments: (1) putting RU on Bentgrass is not needed - Tenacity is excellent at Bentgrass control. (2) if putting RU on Triv, go like 1' (or more) beyond what you see - I can assure you that there is Triv beyond the visible stuff (in the margins) Thanks and yes, I will absolutely go well...
