Re: Ok to treat fungus on St Augustine now? Blanco area
Winter is fairly restorative to St Augustine in Texas. I would not do anything until at least April, which should give the grass ample time to awaken from dormancy. If you feel like you cannot wait, then I would suggest calling your local feed stores to find a 50-pound bag of ordinary corn meal (NOT...

Re: Ants
PW405, what do the ants seem to be attracted to? And what bothers you about them? Except for fire ants, I haven't had an ant problem in decades, but prior to that I did have some ants. Off the ant topic, I see you have both bermuda and fescue. What grass are you overseeding and dethatching this time...

Not exactly lawn care, but...organic nevertheless
Here is a link to an interesting article about using coffee pulp (byproduct of the coffee bean processing) to restore tropical forests formerly used for agriculture.

Re: Jonie's 2022 Soil Test
Hi Jonie, glad to see you here. I've been working with Jonie via email from Houzz for several weeks. When she showed up with the LL soil test, I referred her here, of course. One thing that is very pertinent to her situation is that her weather is entirely dictated by sea breezes from the Pacific. T...

Re: Where to find Seville St. Augustine plugs in CA
The closest sod farms to your location in Jolon, CA are about 265 kilometers south of you. I believe you can find them on Google maps and give them a call. Ask where they might find Seville. If you don't live in Jolon, please redo your location to be more specific. If you live in the LA area, give t...

Re: PGR for dummies
How do you know your P levels are down? Are you testing at TAMU or Logan Labs? I hope you're doing TAMU and we can convince you to try a test from Logan Labs. TAMU has a history of problems with their soil test lab.

Oddly, I used to live in the very belly of Texas cotton country, but I could not find cottonseed meal in the feed stores.

Re: Separating soap and water
I wash my hands a lot, and I like the feel of foamy soap. I also like the idea of economizing on foamy soap by finding a non-foamy version with a nice fragrance and then diluting it by 50% or more to make a foamy version. For awhile I would buy regular soap refills by the gallon and dilute large bat...

Re: Jewelry and Rings
Not me, but... I have an unrelated jewelry story. About 15 year ago we befriended the parents of one of our daughter's classmates in elementary school. He cleaned out grease traps for a living (no college) and she made necklaces (college degree in art). She took a class in school and learned the pro...

Re: Best weed control for gravel driveway
It's too late for an existing installation, but I'm about to put in some pavers from the house to an area of the back yard. We've done this before, twice. The first time I used sand, leveled, put down pavers, and filled around with chipped stones (images below). The second time we used these (seemin...

Re: Separating soap and water
Update: Using the foamy dispenser didn't work. The dispenser dispenses the contents of whatever is in the tube...which is also separated. So the stuff coming out the top was the pink at first but then it's the clear. Also the foam never felt nice and luxurious. So I poured the separated stuff back i...

Re: PGR for dummies
Our experienced bermuda guru got chased away from this forum years ago; however, I doubt he ever experienced regulating growth. He was a bermuda farmer and always wanted more growth. So I'm thinking you'll have trouble finding a guru with experience regulating bermuda growth. Is your yard in full su...

Re: Bermuda - dead, dormant, or ???
We make sure it gets an inch of water per week be it rain or sprinklers. In the last week I’ve been watering 30 minutes in the morning. You're watering wrong. That is exactly what bermuda looks like when it gets water every day. Switch immediately to deep and infrequent watering. Deep means one inc...

Soggy, hmmmm, soggyturf??? Do you have soggy turf? I just replied to your other post, but didn't react to the handle name. In the other msg I suggested you stop applying herbicides. St Augustine should not need it. Even preemergent should not be needed if the grass is properly maintained. Yes, I kno...

Re: Soil Test Results Help
I would further suggest you click back into your profile and redo your location. Texas is waaaaaaay to big to give any meaningful answers. If you live in Dalhart then you have no business trying St Augustine. And if you live in Dallas, pleeeeze don't say North Texas. Be specific. Other terms that do...

Re: Bermuda - dead, dormant, or ???
Don't feed it until after you have mowed real grass, not just weeds, for the second time. The grass has to be fully awake for fertilizer to work. What is your watering schedule? How often and for how long do you water? Also, North Georgia??? Are you in Atlanta or not? We're not coming over; it's jus...

Separating soap and water
This is sort of a morph question, but anyone who knows what's going on can contribute. For many years I've been making foamy soap by diluting regular hand soap and running it through a foam dispenser. Now I have a problem with the soap separating and floating on top of the water in the mix. https://...
