Re: Widespread Rust Outbreak?

I have seen the same thing here in Minnesota at many locations. I don't have any rust in my own lawn but I have really cranked up the irrigation since early August and I think that is what has helped me.

Re: Shoosh's First Soil Test

Hello Shoosh, Welcome to the site and glad to have you here with us! You had stated that nobody took care of the yard prior to you before you owned it and some good news for you is that the soil isn't in bad shape at all for being ignored. There are some areas for improvement so lets move forward wi...

Re: Oak Allelopathy?

In my opinion, Oaks are not a problem. Shade is a problem. Black Walnut trees are a real problem though. Sent from my iOS device using the Yard Help App +1. Walnut trees are one of my worst nightmares. I've has them at prior properties in the past and they make the biggest mess ever not to mention ...

Re: Drop Spreader Question

I love my scotts drop speader. Great for seeding around mulch beds. Don't use it that much but am glad I have it when I need it. Have had mine for 10 years. [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/images/mobile/Android.png Would you recommend seeding with it. Or would a broadcast...

Re: dandirk's soil test fall 2013

You just have to keep watch on your ground soil temps and as we both know here in Minnesota they can vary drastically year to year. It is the ground temps that affect how the quickly an organic fertilizer such as Milo is processed by the soil. Keep in mind that soil biology slows way down when groun...

Re: Roundup after seeding

I have used RU 2 days past Seed Down Date myself but I would not go any farther past 2 days. I believe the general guideline is Seed Down Date + 4 days for RU usage.

Re: My New Favorite Hosta

I bought 4 Frances Williams along with 4 Old Glory from Gilbert H Wild back in June and they are doing very well. I just recently bought 4 Blue Ivory, 2 Rainbows End, and 2 Patriot from Gilbert H Wild 2 weeks ago on and end of season sale so I couldn't go wrong. I am concerned and unsure if I should...

Re: dandirk's soil test fall 2013

Dan, Your soil is a very typical upper midwest soil and many members here in the midwest have high Magnesium cations in their soil. That is your case here, which is resulting in a high pH number. High pH soils are most often the result of high Ca and/or high Mg cations. The Ca base saturation number...

Sawdust is a great addition to the soil for moisture retention and building up that OM. I would get what ever you could from the pallet company. ;)

Re: VOL JACK Soil Test 2013

Soil is looking good in many areas and the good news is that not much needs doing per your last soil test. There are a few simple things to do before your overseeding date arrives and these are good soil maintenence tasks which is all that is necessary to finish out this year along with your fall ov...
