Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

DAY 10: Getting pretty good germination throughout. I am finally able to see patches of green grass from a distance. I have highlighted some of the "problem areas" below. https://i.postimg.cc/64wq1nC2/20200822-072354.jpg The area on the property line holds the sprinkler heads for this side of the ya...

Re: Lawn dirt so bumpy, everywhere

I guess I should re-apply kelp+sls again or maybe also core aerate it? I wouldn't think either of those things would hurt. Maybe aerate then backfill/topdress with compost to help retain water. I have an area like that in my yard. It is right off my back porch, southwest facing (if you stand there ...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

Thanks K-N! I have read through your reno threads and even was showing my wife pictures of your 2015 reno just last night to show what progress is made filling in once you get to the peak of the first full growing season. And for the washouts, that was one of my thoughts for an early seed-down date,...

https://i.postimg.cc/GBJ8Syfv/20200818-220146.jpg We have germination on the evening of Day 5 (8/18). It took some hunting, but there are a few early arrivals to the lawn party. I unfortunately also got an inch of rain this morning with some heavy downpours mixed in. Areas where my buried downspout...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

Everything Looks great!!!....how much starter w/meso did you put down? I put down 2 full bags. Says it treats 5k sq ft per bag. I have about 8k. Have not put down any tenacity yet this year, so nowhere close to annual max. Did a quick look this morning (day 4 post seeding) and have seen some bleach...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

What do your neighbor's think about your reno? Are they the type who will say "it looked fine to me, why'd you kill it?" I have had a little bit of everything in terms of responses. Very few understand as it did, in fact, look fine. I did have a guy who moved onto the street within the last month c...

Re: Oceangro Sale

Good price compared to Milo in our area. I got 20 bags of Milorganite today for $7 each :yahoo: Walmart that I work at special ordered a pallet for someone who backed out of the purchase. Bags weren't moving at regular price so I asked garden center manager to mark them down and I'd clear them out....

Re: Schreibdave's 2020 Backyard Renovation

I would like to go seed down on Friday the 14th. Good luck, keep us posted! I have been weather watching like crazy waiting for a good window. Some areas around here got 2+ inches of rain in a matter of a few hours yesterday so I'm glad I've held off. Still shooting for 8/16 for seed down for mysel...

Re: jskierko's 2020 Soil Test

A Novice that can spot a calcareous soil - I'm suitably impressed. I guess I have "experimented" enough to change my level to "some experience". That may be simple BBDL. Use what works for you. I wish I could tell myself that was the case, but it was evident burn from the application. I watched the...

Re: jskierko's 2020 Soil Test

Thanks for the analysis Andy! You were smart to get the AA test, as it's pretty clear that you're dealing with calcareous soil. I ran the test without AA first and saw the results. Having read through many of these, I went ahead and called Logan back within 5 minutes and gave them the nod to re-run ...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation

Did you mow and bag all of that dead grass yourself? Yes, 30 full yard bags and a nice monetary donation to the trash men for collecting all of them for me. My experience from last years bigger renovation was that I got MUCH better germination where I had grass stuble than where I had bare dirt. Th...

One of the only times where someone inadvertently driving on my lawn doesn't really bother me. 2 weeks from now I'd have taken a different stance on this mishap.

2nd glyphosate blanket app 8/6, 11 days after 1st application. One side of yard mowed down to 1", other side at 1.33". Still on pace for seed down on 8/15. https://i.postimg.cc/1VzwwLD3/20200806-173455.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/MXsyqp8M/20200806-173500.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8skh2rxg/20200806-17352...

how do you put down that much peat moss? I am doing 4000 sq ft and I plan on doing a wood fiber blanket. Any thoughts? I plan on spreading all (15ish 3 cu ft bales) by hand. As much as I'd love the convenience of the peat moss roller that Paul mentioned (considering I used a lot of his reno as my i...

Nice! Are the neighbors talking about you? I've had a few looky-loos. I live on a cul-de-sac, so I know everyone that regularly drives by.
