Anyone Else in CT had to water a lot lately?
It's been like 3 weeks or more of sunny, 60-75 degree weather without rainfall, and my newly overseeded grass (August/September) has been getting stressed to the point of turning darker, wilting, and even some blade die-off occurring of late near the curb. The past week and a half (about a week afte...

Re: Those that applied 46-0-0 Urea in the fall
How are things coming up for you? My lawn is coming up gangbusters, deep, thick and green as I left it last year. ...and the best news, holding off on any N this spring has slowed growth so I'm only mowing every 4 days instead of every 2-3. My big question is how do you guys do it?? I mean hold off...

Re: Was it really Triv?
Could have been annual rye, which seems to be fading. My hours and hours of painting the blades over the past 6 weeks seems to have paid off, just needed the weather to warm up. I think my lighter colored rye I just mentioned is annual. Has clasping auricles. It seems like it wants to go to seed (j...

Re: It's Time for Proactive Fungus Control
Am I the only one seeing a banner ad for "Proactive" brand acne control at the top of this page? I think it has to do with the title of this thread. And for some reason it's in Spanish.

Re: Was it really Triv?
I have a fast-growing patch that is yellow-green, almost like Triv. I was afraid it was Triv, but it is on the other side of the driveway where there is no Triv. I went and inspected it closely, and it turned out to be Ryegrass (which is one of the grasses I planted on purpose). Sometimes ryegrass w...

Re: Spreading Experiment
Have to ask, what are you feeding and watering schedule? Watering is whenever it needs it, which isn't too often since it's in shade a lot of the time...so about once a week so far. Fertilizer so far was just synthetic as winterizer in December, and some Scotts organic stuff with feather meal mid A...

Re: Looks like it is seeding time
Last week as I was cutting the lawn,I noticed a few seedheads forming on the lawn, today much more, maybe 2% of entire lawn.....within a week or so,I expect the entire lawn to be covered in seedheads and those hard to mow stalks.Anyone else seeing this yet in the transition zone? I've been seeing it ...

Re: Repairing unseen but felt tire rut damage
As you may know, last year I had a dump truck do some sever tire rut damage. Thanks to Andy's advice I was able to pull the ruts up like a golf divot, add soil and seed. Grass came in nicely, it looks good, but when I walk over the area you can still feel the lumps/ruts. I was thinking of shampooin...

Re: Back to my normal mowing height of 3 in...
Is there a benefit to starting around 2" and gradually raising to 3"? For me, there definitely was. I left between 2 and 2.5 inches last Fall, so it allowed me to mow earlier and get things cleaned up (there was some snow mold that I had to rake out in early April). Also, being the first spring aft...

Back to my normal mowing height of 3 in...
With a freshly sharpened blade and having taken advantage of the rapid spring growth which pushed the grass from 2 to 3 inches in a week, and the fact that I am busy with work lately, I am ready to resume mowing at roughly 3 inches once again. The grass looks very thick now and has a rich green colo...

Re: Tenacity & Triv- am I crazy?
Since this is brought up, I too hit several triv spots with wbg + cco, 2 times over a couple of weeks...I was hitting some chickweed anyway. Today I did notice browning triv and it hasn't grown. Do I think I killed it? Hell no. Maybe I take some photos tomorrow. It didn't seem to effect annua at al...

Ok, I'm probably nuts for posting this...but anyone have an inkling if this product might be useful (or detrimental) for this purpose? Or maybe as one ingredient in a mixture? http://www.westliberty.edu/health-and-safety/files/2012/08/KODAK-Photo-Flo-200.pdf Propylene glycol, etc. My uncle was photo...

Re: Tenacity & Triv- am I crazy?
I am not even willing to put up with the brown dead spots for weeks from roundup in my front yard....to me it looks much worse than the triv! As you know, I used the 2,4-D/Triclopyr secret sauce several weeks ago. It turned it brown. But now it looks like the brown spots are getting smaller due to ...

Re: POA ANNUA VS. KBG
I have a 90/10 TTTF/KBG lawn. I just put it down in Sept. 2012. I know that I have Poa ANNUA. i know this because it is lime green compared to the surrounding dark green lawn, it has seed heads, and it looks just like pics of poa annua. I also have dark green grass with Seedheads. I can't remember ...

Re: Anyone watering in MA?
I've had to water in CT. ~2.5 weeks so far with no rain, and one more to go.
Some of the grass threatened to go dormant especially where there are tree roots. It's first spring post overseed, I can't allow that.

Re: Suggestions on grass selection (pics)
Creepng red fescue (I am pretty sure that's the main type of fine fescue I have, as it spreads up here in CT) does go to seed. In fact, mine is starting to get stalky right now. Here is a pic showing the seed heads last May. I have seen this grass take over for dead KBG in the original contractors' ...
