Re: When is the right time to start Spring watering?
Interested in this myself, but I'd say when it starts growing again, it probably needs water. I took out the push lawn mower last weekend and cut at the same height I did last November, and cut barely anything. I am guessing the grass hasn't started any top growth yet. I figure Ill water when I star...

Re: Some March 10 lawn observations
We have rain coming up Monday in SE Mass, but we don't have any forsythia blooms yet. In fact had what looked like some frost this morning, Im thinking at least a week, maybe two.

Re: To Pre-M or not to Pre-M.....
Thanks for a good thread, learned a lot.
I'm going to stick to the plan and drop pre-m and see what happens. If it grows great, if it doesn't Ill over-seed in August. Ill see how what happens....

Re: Spring 2016 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...
Thanks so much for the analysis and recommendations. If you see a pickup truck full of bay state fertilizer driving down rte 95 it is probably me :-) The old tree site is about 2 years old. we used to have mushroom pop up all the time, haven't gotten as many mushrooms pop as they used to. Ill plan o...

To Pre-M or not to Pre-M.....
So I was already to drop 0-0-7 Pre-m Dimension down on my hell strips when another thread got into the merits of using a pre-m. This is only my 2nd year with all this, so maybe I could use some advice from the guru's that have been in this same spot and maybe this thread will help other newbies... I...

Good source of 0-0-7 Dimension in SE Mass?
Any fellow Massachusetts people know of a good source of 0-0-7 Dimension? I hit Marvin Grain today (a local landscaper supplier) and asked for straight dimension; when I checked my truck I got 18-0-4 fertilizer with dimension. It has fertilizer mixed in, they said that it was better with the fertili...

Fungus ID is it Salvageable?
The snow finally melted on my hell strip. I did an over-seed with Lesco Sun and Shae Mix here in the fall and it came out really well. Is this snow mold damage? Is this salvageable or should I plan on reseeding this? http://s14.postimg.cc/q8l87wyj1/March_2016_Grass_Fungus_1.jpg http://s23.postimg.cc...

Re: To do an early spring fertilization or not?
I haven't even considered the first cut yet.
I noticed the grass started growing, but we still have snow on some of the lawn. Keeping it short at first might encourage it to spread.
My bagging mower isn't out yet, but love any excuse to use the reel mower.

Re: Need advice spring or fall rehab?
I used Lesco Sun and Shade on my reno and was happy with it. When I looked at Lesco last year the double eagle and sun and shade had the same types of PR. I think Lesco was the only grass seed that wasn't coated. I was intrigued with the spreading type of rye, unless I find that available at the loc...

Re: Pre-m delay after overseed
With regards to a 2nd application of tenacity after 30 days. Won't the type of grass matter when doing this? KBG is tolerance of tenacity, where PR and Tenacity is a bad combination. Would putting tenacity on 20 day old Pernial Rye lawn damage it? Would you be better off putting down Dimension once ...

Re: Need advice spring or fall rehab?
I have to check on what type of PR the local feed/landscape store carries. I may shoot for the March 12th weekend, but going to see what the wx brings. What type of PR types am I looking for?

Re: Need advice spring or fall rehab?
Thanks for the replay. Its looking like her yard is such a mud pit we have to try and get something down this spring. Knowing that there is so much crabgrass down there waiting to pounce, the plan is probably.... Kill off whatever is growing one week before.... Put tenacity or scotts starter w/weed ...

Re: The upcoming season....
I followed the fall fertilizer guide and put down urea in December when the grass stopped growing.
Hopefully (fingers crossed) all that nitrogen is still in the soil waiting for the grass to wake up.

Re: Tenacity vs Tuperspan at seeding....
Thanks for the reply, the thing is the yard becomes a mud pit with crab grass, and she has a few birthday parties during the summer she holds in the yard. Complicating things even more is one of them is August 20th when she should be starting a fall over seed. She isn't crazy about spraying round up...

Which Orbit Timer for seed watering?
Can anyone suggest an orbit timer model that allows you to set specific times for watering new seed? The problem is I have a model that lets me water 2/day or 3/day; but will also water at 9pm at night. Which is bad. What I do now is shut it off after 5pm, and turn it back on later, but would like t...

Tenacity vs Tuperspan at seeding....
My sister is in between a rock and a hard place. Her yard was all crab grass last year, after a failed re-grading project the yard is terrible. The spring was hot and dry and she never watered enough for the grass to germinate. I realize August is best to redo her backyard, but she really wants to t...

i still have to figure out what a Forsythia is
Not to hijack the OP thread, but how long is the window to get the pre-m down when these bloom?
Will I have time to see these bloom and wait for some rain to water it in, or as soon as these bloom should i get the sprinklers out?
