Did moss ruin fall over-seed
So the backyard TTF lawn is really starting to look good this year, but had countless small bare patches and ruts from last years self-installed irrigation system. The patches were mostly unnoticeable because I mow high. I ignored the bare patches with the plan of a fall over-seed when conditions wo...

Re: Boston Globe Article on PFAS in Bay State Fertilizer
I never realized how ubiquitous PFAS were around us. https://www.multipure.com/purely-social/science/perfluorochemicals-contamination-in-drinking-water/ I'll likely keep using baystate, but will not put down when the kids around (i.e. put it down in the evening and keep kids in the house for the res...

Re: 0.08% other crop
Blue Tag has nothing to do with Weed/Other Crop really, other than basic quality controls. Blue Tag certifies that what is in the label is what's in the bag. There are limits that no other cultivar was grown in that acreage for a pretty long period, etc. "Other Crop" is a designation for things tha...

Re: 0.08% other crop
I looked up the oregon criteria for blue tag certified and it looks like my FireCracker does fall within the limits (less than 0.10% other crop). https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/MarketAccess/SeedRegProgram/Pages/QualityTagCertification.aspx I'm not sure why it didn't carry a blue tag I also foun...

Re: 0.08% other crop
Other crop could contain Poa Triv. Thanks for the reply turf_toes. From my research, it looks like I may be safe from Poa as "other crop" tend to be seeds of similar size to the desired seed. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that since Poa is much smaller than TTF, so I should be ok. Havin...

0.08% other crop
I just bought 50lb of FireCracker TTF from United Seed as they were having a sale. A few months ago I picked up "Titanium 2LS" TTF, which arrived blue tag with 0% "other crop" and 0% Weed. This go around, I chose the "FireCracker SLS" from their sod farm category. I was thinking it would be gold tag...

Wow, $5/bag! Great find. Unfortunately the closest Walmart is an hour away, so not worth the drive to check

Re: Super Recycler or HRR?
the Honda dual blade is pretty expensive to replace at $30. Much cheaper to buy just the lower blade, particularly from Boats.net . Buy a few. I find that the upper blade never gets dinged and barely needs sharpening. Thanks for the tip! Will keep in mind for the future, but I just bought a robotic...

Re: Drip Irrigation
I've been working on adding drip to my irrigation system. It's pretty quick, easy and kind of fun compared to installing the sprinkler irrigation part. I'm no expert and have been piecing together info as I go along. I appreciate the info folks have posted above. The following 2 links have been pret...

Re: Super Recycler or HRR?
I own an old 2004 super recycler that someone gave me free in 2012. It has a kohler engine. In 2014 I bought a Honda hrx to replace it only because I thought it would mow faster. Unfortunately it made no real difference in mowing speed or cut quality from what I could tell, so I returned the hrx and...

Re: Seed down prep for renovations
Thanks for the fantastic summary.
This is the first time I've seen "soil moist seed coating " mentioned in a post. I'm sure I've read it before, but didn't realize it was a product to use. Will have to give it a shot with my next reno. Where do you typically buy it?

Re: 50% germination on KBG will it fill in by the fall?
The philes approach for elite kbg may help: https://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=21849 Essentially you put down 1 lb nitrogen a month, ideally at 1/2 lb every 2 weeks. Philes seems to recommend straight milorganite, but I plan to alternate between applications of organic fertilizer (we ...

Re: Water hammering - New sprinkler system install
Also look at irrigationtutorials.com. He has a good write up on water hammer too. I have water hammer too. Wish I had gone with 1 1/4" main lines but my neighbor talked me out of it saying it was overkill. Ended up putting in a pressure regulator, use the water hammer setting on my rachio (it opens ...

Re: Are you up to the max height of cut for your lawn yet?
Sorry HoosierLawnGnome, just saw your suggestion and appreciate the offer. I think I solved my issue. I believe my lawn was starved for nitrogen. A large section was literally 1/2" tall and not growing despite all the rain we had received. I was deliberately holding off on fertilizing to force root ...

Re: Robomow RS 630
GeorgiaDad, did you end up getting the rs630? If so, what had been your experience so far? I'm seriously considering one myself some point over the next year. HoosierLawnGnome, do you really mow your grass low? I was under the impression mowing cool season lawn low would be considered heresy on arou...

Re: Not lawn related, but any thoughts on a JD 28” snowblower?
I can't speak to how good this snowblower is, but keep in mind that old snow blowers are dangerous. I work in an operating room and have seen some horrible finger amputations (the mechanism of injury doesn't allow for reattachment like they can sometimes do with table saw injuries). The newer models...
