Re: Spectrum's 2019 Soil test
A couple of points I forgot to mention:. Last year I ran BLSC with kelp help by way of irrigation fertigator for most of last year due to soil being very compact after yard excavation. I also always mulch mow the lawn.

Spectrum's 2019 Soil test
Thanks in advance for your help. This site has been invaluable with all the help I've received from members to date Location is Cape Cod Massachusetts Total lawn is 15,000 sq ft, made up of 2,500 KBG and 12,500 TTF Started from scratch in spring 2018 with top soil over sand after excavating the enti...

Re: When to seed bluegrass in the spring?
If you are going ahead with a spring reno, definitely use tenacity (I believe scotts starter fertilizer with weed preventer has tenacity in it, which may possibly be as effective as spraying separately). It works wonders. Last year I did a spring reno with a Preferred Seed "drought mix" without tena...

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
I recently picked up 25 bags and was happy to see that it's still $3.50 each. One thing I can see hurting their sales are the bags. They look great but you have to handle them fairly gingerly because the glue they use is not very strong. Always seem to have more than one bag that has leaked out in m...

Re: Annual Ryegrass residual allelopathy
Haha, I was wondering the same thing as I was researching into annual rye grass i.e: why would a sod farmer want annual ryegrass. But the overall message did get through to me in that I want to avoid introducing poa trivalis into my soil before the reno A somewhat related question came to mind thoug...

Re: Annual Ryegrass residual allelopathy
Absolutely!! Finding and using "Sod Quality" seed (not just "weed-free") is strongly recommended, and well-spent money. Take it from someone that spent 6 years fighting Poa Trivialis (which technically isn't a weed). Hmm, I don't seem to be able to find sod quality (or even certified) annual Ryegra...

Re: Annual Ryegrass residual allelopathy
Thanks for your responses. It's good to know that annual ryegrass is not known to have allelpathy like perennial ryegrass, and even if it did I should be ok.
Since my plan is to roundup the lawn for a fall reno, is there any benefit to finding a weed free seed?

Annual Ryegrass residual allelopathy
Does anyone know how long the allelopathic effects of annual Ryegrass persist after it is torched with Roundup? I have a 1000 sq ft island of lawn next to the house which has been completing trampled and destroyed while having siding replaced. In addition we had an extremely wide front walkway narro...

Re: Winter Deicer
I've always used salt in the past, but this post has me reconsidering its use this winter, especially as we have started to really put time into our lawn.
Does anyone have thoughts on urea? How about mixing in sand to whatever is used to cut down on chemicals?

Re: Roll Call: Class of 2018 Renovations
I'm 4 weeks into a 2.5K KBG reno with 50% Prosperity (thanks ken-n-nancy) and 50% hogan KBG blend (4 way mix of award, midnight, everglade, and nuglade). Glyphosphate x2, 2 weeks apart. Seed down with Baystate fertilizer, starter fertilizer, and tenacity. I was going to apply tenacity again today, b...

Re: Renovators: Now You Hear The Truth
OK, Renovators - now you've probably killed the old lawn and used the opportunity of last week or this week to get the seed down, and you've self-medicated with adult beverages. You're just seeing the first little bambinos of the new lawn (or will soon!). Now we tell you about one of the most frust...

That's all organic?! Gorgeous Morph! Thanks! Fifty-fifty organic, with everything else being "acceptable within an organic program." I make my own mix of fertilizer for the fertigation system out of urea, potassium sulfate, and monoammonium phosphate, plus iron sulfate and kelp. Hi Morpheus, I'm in...

Re: High magnesium levels
Thanks again so much Ken! I will pick up the Sta-Green this week
I already followed your recommendation from a previous thread and picked up 14 bags of BayState. I'm assuming I will still need the starter fertilzer this August for the quick release side of things, correct?

Hi all, I received my soil analysis back from UMass. Unfortunately I had already sent it off before learning the ATY community much prefers logan, but I will definitely use logan next time. Hopefully the UMass analysis has enough info to be useful. I was essentially testing the new topsoil/loam that...

Re: Cape Cod grass help needed!
The Hogan KBG blend was a 4 way mix of award, midnight, everglade, and nuglade. Looking back, I think I should have just gone with the midnight as they are all compact midnights, of which the midnight seems to score best for my area

Re: Cape Cod grass help needed!
Two things I'll mention: 1: There's a local New England seed supplier, Valley Green. Their prices will be much lower than from Super Seed Store. I'd highly recommend calling them (there's one not too horribly far from the Cape) and seeing what they have in stock. KBGkicksazz recently had them mix u...

Re: Cape Cod grass help needed!
Andy, point taken on not cutting corners or taking on to big a project. I really want this to succeed. I can start with the front yard this yr, which would leave me renovating 6500 sqft, and then overseed the back for now. I was told by one seed seller to go with 3lb/1000 sqft, and maybe slightly hi...
