Re: Warm Season Shade Grass

Looks like Tifway 419 to me from that first picture - Just be aware tiffway 419 and celebration bermuda have a little different characteristics such as color and texture Probably won't be that noticeable unless someone knows and is looking for the difference. Definitely won't be as noticeable as th...

Re: Warm Season Shade Grass

You don't have common Bermuda assuming that's a fairly new pre-planned community and it looks like it is.

You have 3 options; Get rid of the tree, make the area a flower bed, or plug/sod with a more shade tolerant Bermuda (Celebration and TifGrand are your best options)

Can't tell anything from those pics. Funny thing about grass is it all looks the same when it's dead.

Re: Is my soil that hard?! Pre-m seems to just lay on the ground

Your fine, don't overthink it, I would say you were probably a little late this year on your Pre-m. Other than this cold blast this week, its been a very warm winter. I put mine down mid feb and still believe I may have been a tad late. Late in relation to what? The relation as to when he put down ...

Re: St Augustine fertilizing schedule

Is that too much N for the St Augustine? If I forego the other apps of starter, can I add phosphorus some other way or is that all I should add this year? I do plan to do milorganite every three weeks throughout the summer. The rates were based upon my difficencies in the soil test, someone helped ...

Re: St Augustine fertilizing schedule

I would cut down to one application of nitrogen per year in spring and substitute 7 and 10 with heavy doses of Milorganite.

Re: Should I just light my lawn on fire and start fresh?

Thank you for the replies- I greatly appreciate you taking the time to help. It looks like Blindside acts as a post and somewhat pre-emergent as well? Pricey for sure, but honestly the amount I've spent on numerous other things to try and rid myself of these weeds is probably comparable. Any sugges...

Yes, I have a yorkie but I make sure she goes off of the yard to go. But my neighbor has 3-4 dogs that wonder around.
It looks like they're peeing all over your yard, unless those dark spots are some kind of weed

Re: Help picking seed

The one knock on Zoysia is that it doesn't spread as aggressively as Bermuda or SA but maybe someone else knows of a way.

Do you have dogs?

Re: Should I just light my lawn on fire and start fresh?

Weed n Feed products are largely a gimmick and won't do anything against weeds like poa and clover. If you're willing to spend the money, the best herbicides you can use are Celsius and Blindside. It's also the right time of year to put down an application of pre-emergent herbicide. Take a look at t...

Re: Help picking seed

There isn't a seeded Bermuda that is going to work in that much shade. I'm a big believer in St Augustine, especially Palmetto SA, but it sounds like there may be an issue with the soil conditions or cultural practices.

When I was trying to maintain St. Augustine, I'd cut it has high as my mower would let me. Somewhere around 3.5 to 4". The grass loved it.
Only way to know the best mowing height for SA is to experiment and let it tell you.

Re: Weed ID - weed from my tree?

The roots do make them look like tree saplings but I've never seen a tree produce that many at once. I have a few mature trees in my back yard and I'll find maybe 2 or 3 saplings growing in the yard per year. It might be worth contacting your local county extension and see if someone can come out an...

Re: Georgia / South Carolina - Time to start?

I got started around the beginning of Feb because I could see the writing on the wall that winter was ending early and things were happening already. Spring has already started as far as we're concerned down here, everything is blooming and expecting temps in the 80s next week.

Re: How low can celebration go

As far as I'm aware it can be kept just as low as Tifway, along with better cold and shade tolerance. Our weather has been just about the same as yours based on what you said, and so far mine is still green and growing too. I think last year it finally went dormant some time in February. Celebratio...
