Re: Newbie here who needs help searching
as far as mowing heights go, the book generally says bermuda is best at an inch or less, and st. augustine 3-4". i've found my st. aug looks and does best with a 5" cut so it's something you can experiment with yourself, but i wouldn't go below 3" during summer. i'm not familiar with how moist the h...

i've also been wondering where you guys are getting your straight nitrogen, the big stores obviously don't carry it You will need to find a John Deere Landscapes or another Landscape supply store by you to find straight Nitrogen. thanks, i actually figured it out today by looking up "JDL" that ever...

Re: So lost....
That looks like Bermuda to me (anyone else). It could just be dormant and neglected. Bermuda can be very soft and recovers remarkably when cared for properly (see Bermuda bible in the articles at the top). It does go dormant, so you might not want that. Just something to consider, you might already...

Yeah. I understand how you feel. I sometimes wonder if these "pros" aren't half blind. I mean , c'mon, they've got to see that it looks worse after their work, right? I realize there are decent folks out there doing this stuff for a living. But there are far too many people whose only qualification...

whatever you do, don't panic
what were the steps you followed before and after installing?
where did the sod come from, and how much time between being cut and laid?

i don't think most people realize just how tough and self-reliant st. augustine can be. i rarely water mine, same for my neighbors who have great st aug. lawns.
and i wish our HOA were that strict about mowing and appearance...

Re: Questions about reel mowers
Thanks guys I love the results from a reel mower.my yard still needs to fill in more but I am looking around for a used one. I hate the jump with my snapper mower.i mean in height-1.2 - 1.7 - 2.2 -2.7 etc. .5 at a time. Going on third year - thin - area and bad soil and I'm getting there but might ...

Re: Questions about reel mowers
for that much lawn i would get the biggest one in your price range. i can't imagine a larger reel requiring that much more effort than a typical push rotary. i never collect the reel clippings. never mow in the heat of the day. and i can't help as far as who the oldest might be, but i'm in my early ...

Re: Broadcast spreaders and accuracy?
i have the scotts edgeguard which has a lever to block or unblock the right side of the spreader from broadcasting. i assume that's how it will work on other types.
a lot of people seem to complain about it but it's worked fine for me.

I can't compete with you guys, but here's my contribution. The round dead spot(pic 2) is my 2,4D overdose I mentioned in another thread. If you look closely you'll see that some volunteer Bermuda is coming in. And in pic 3, there's a well in there some place. Those cactus and wildflowers are rockin...

Re: Converting St. Aug Lawn to Bermuda
sounds like you did all the same wrong things that i did with my st augustine; mowing too low and watering too much. just recently finished replacing it with bermuda also. luckily i only had about a 1,000 SF area to deal with.
