Re: Tenacity in the fall for POA

I should 2nd that a good raking in the spring pulled out a lot of dead looking poa-a with seed heads. In the past I assumed it was dead, but over the last few years realized that this dead looking poa-a does come back to life. I used a grounds keeper II rake and it worked really well st removing the...

Re: Tenacity in the fall for POA

I have tried the Fall Tenacity apps in the fall. They never worked well for me. I'd say wait for the spring when poa-a is easier to spot again. The August and Late September pre-m apps are huge, don't miss those. Tenacity is not a substitute for Prodiamine or Dimension. I have always worried that th...

Re: 4-6 hours Sun or Shade seed?

Does SSS even have any seed to sell?

They have been sold out of most of there seed since the spring. I used to like them as someone who had gold tag / sod quality seeds in small quantities, but until they get a full inventory of seed again, it's tough to trust what they re selling.

Re: 4-6 hours Sun or Shade seed?

I really like the SSS TTTF Shade Blend, it has done great in the front that gets more shade than I’d like to admit. I had their FF shade blend, but hated how it flopped over and burned out as soon as it got into the 80’s. I really never liked the FF, my only complaint is that the TTTF seems to take ...

Re: Fertilizing now to slow red thread?

I'm new to the fungicide, the serenade approach has never seemed to work for me, this year i have been putting down fungicide a head of fungus issues. I thought i read somewhere that propicanzanole slows down growth, which may not be a huge deal in July, but if you were thinking some extra nitrogen ...

Re: Best time for fall overseeding in Annapolis, MD?

You basically work backwards from the last day you want the new seed growing on its own. The key points to consider..... 1.) It will take 14-21 days for TTTF come up 2.) Spraying tenacity will buy you about 30 days of weed protection while your seeding and poa-a wants to germinate for next year 3.) ...

Re: Grading, Fill Dirt, Topsoil and Seeding?

One last tip if you go with the annual rye, kill any grass now. Don’t assume you will be able to kill it in late July, if poa-a or triv go dormant in the summer, roundup won’t work on them, now is the time to kill triv. You can actually spray glysophate at the same time you put seed down.

Re: Grading, Fill Dirt, Topsoil and Seeding?

You also have no idea what got brought in with that top soil weed and triv wise. Triv needs to be killed now, not in august it’s a good idea to fertilize and water to get any weeds up now so you can kill them with glysophate.

Re: Poa annua confirmation and mesotrione regimen

I can also confirm FF hates Mesotrione, I had a few isolated poa-a patches in a FF shade mix last year. All I did is a few quick weekly sprayer of Tenacity in FF and it it took a beating. Some of it died, but the poa-a didnt do great either. FF also doesn't like mesotrione at seeding time, I have le...

Not at all. Find something with "Triclopyr" in it, you will see them listed as Clover Killer. Even the bog box stores sell a version of weed b gone concentrate specifically for clover and wild violets. Make sure you dont get teh regular weed-b-gone, or better yet get a generic version of Triclopyr a...

Re: Poa A is lit up

I did my reno 3 years ago, and still pulling out poa-a, you could have had poa-a seed in the yard for years just waiting for the right conditions to germinate. The benefit of nuking the poa-a spots now is that right now they are alive, growing, and easy to see. Once the KBG starts going to seed it w...

Re: Poa Annua vs KBG seedheads

I am still learning how to win this battle, but a few guidelines I try to force myself to remember every year.... 1.) poa-a will survive the summer. Mine turns brown and looks dead in August, but bounces back and comes back in the spring with the tell tale poa-a seedheads. Don't ever assume it will ...

Re: Poa A is lit up

There is always the option of grabbing some sod to fill them in. Chances are the color won't match, but some people have done that. This may be a tough thing to say around here, but the longer I fight my war on poa-a, the more I wish I had a good local sod supplier. It would have been a lot easier i...

Re: Poa A is lit up

Where did you get the seed from? I did a full Reno 3 years ago and have been in denial about how much poa-a tagged along with my Reno. It could have came in the seed, or always been in the yard, it might have been dormant when You killed off your old lawn. Treat it like triv and kill it now, by nuki...

Re: Status of POACure? (Updated 02/2020 below)

I have been through all this before. I have so many weeks when the poa-a is seeding, then the KBG starts to also. Right now it’s easy to tell what’s poa-a and what’s KBG, in a week or two I won’t be able to. My only concern with glysophate is that KBG, spreads. If I spray a small area with poa-a, wi...

Re: Status of POACure? (Updated 02/2020 below)

Who cares how much it cost. I'd gladly pay $300 for a bottle. I have been spraying tenacity every 4 days, I have 2 apps left, and doubt the poa-a in my lawn will really be controlled by the Tenacity, its never been before. I am so close to giving up on the lawn. I just can't beat the poa-a, there is...

Re: Spring Ideas and Recommendations

+1 on the spring overseeing being dangerous, although full disclosure I am doing one this year because I just can't risk the poa-a if I were to do it in august. KBG is slow to green up, and its hard to know if a reno will take off. Mine always looked clumpy and bumpy that first summer. The KBG begin...

Re: Spring 2022 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...

Thanks for the recommendations. When I saw the PH dropped to 6.2 I guessed there was lime in my future. I did over-seed, is there any issues with applying the fast acting lime or sop withe the over-seed? I over-seeded because I had a few problem bare spots and a few thin areas. I would expect to see...

Spring 2022 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...

Thanks for the soil report review, its been a few years at this point. The lawn is a KBG lawn with 1,500 sf. Last year I followed the guide lines guidelines I have been getting for a few years now. I applied 2#/k of SOP monthly and Twenty Mule Team laundry soap and Manganese Sulfate at 3 tablespoons...
