Re: Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations
Just to give you a heads up.... A lot of my poa-a already got fried from last months first mini heat wave. With temps way up, you might have poa-a and triv thats already dormant and won't be effected by fallowing in July. You will have triv and poa-a thats just waiting to come back when you start wa...

Is it too late to treat for Grubs....
My little mini reno in front took longer than I thought to establish. I never got any grub-ex down this spring.
I realize it might be too late for grub-ex, Is it too late to get anything down now?
Watering it in an 1" by hand won't be a problem.

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix
I tried a shade tolerant TTTF blend from SSS. Im sure you could get the same cultivars on their own from other vendors. TTTF must have similar germination habits of FF. I did a small patch of the shade TTTF blend. It germinated great, but it took 2-3 weeks to get out of sprout and pout. I was conser...

Re: Any opinions on watering everyday after a drought....
Thanks.... I wasn't seriously considering it, this forum has an 1" engrained in my head :-) But the brown spots that came on so fast this year was a reality check on how I might be wrong with how the lawn was doing this year. I thought the lawn was doing good; the KBG seed heads were finally drying ...

Re: Any opinions on watering everyday after a drought....
I hear you, I had hoped by the third summer I could shoot for 1” a week, but it seems like the mini heat wave indicated 1/2” twice a week might be a better goal to shoot for. I’d like to water when it needs it by looking for drought stress, Bit It’s still hard for me to tell if the yellow is stresse...

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix
Just a few FF things to consider if you over-seed with FF, these are just from my observations doing few shaded areas in the front of my house..... 1.) Don't use tenacity when seeding, I was warned off of using Tenacity at seed down when seeding with FF. tenacity worked great for me on PR and KBG, b...

Any opinions on watering everyday after a drought....
I got something in my email box today. The lawn "expert" in question was asked about a lot of yellow in their lawn. His reply was that after a period of early, really hot weather, the grass starts to go dormant early. To turn this around the suggestion is.... Day 1 = water 1/2" twice, once in the mo...

Re: OK, so who was brave/dumb enough to use Certainty?
I have this fine bladed triv and it is driving me crazy! Really do not want to nuke my lawn.
If it’s really triv, nuking the whole lawn wouldn’t kill it off right now anyway. We just came off an early heat wave, about a week in th...

Thanks Morpheus, I learn something new about the yard everyday. Would this also work with squirrels?
There are a couple of flowers in our yard they constantly eat. I said their was probably noting we could do about it, the this post came along

Re: Red thread
I traded the red thread for dried up KBG seed heads that look the same to me :-) I guess there is always something, I still deal with red thread in the FF in the front. I recently noticed how good the bewitched KBG in the FF mix I used is doing and spreading. I am very tempted to kill it off and go ...

Re: GRYD’s 2020 KBG Backyard Renovation
As distasteful as it might be; concentrate on getting the KBG through the summer this year. Next year you can count on it spreading and filling in holes. You will also be able to get some pre-m down. personally I rotate pre-m's now just incase, I hate poa-a that much and it always finds a way to get...

Re: GRYD’s 2020 KBG Backyard Renovation
My KBG reno 4 years ago and was a very mixed bag. I had a ton of poa-a, and still do. Its a constant battle. I always feel like I lost it, until I step back and look at someone else's yard. its only then that i realize my lawn has made progress. I did a lot of the things you did. The best thing i le...

How fast does your KBG grow?
I am still trying to get a hang of when my KBG is growing at full stream. I have a 4 year old KBG lawn, made up of midnight, bewitched, blueberry, and prosperity. It seemed to green up early thanks to last years fall fertilizer program, but even now it's not really growing very fast. I had a ton of ...

Re: Sharing my thoughts about TTTF
I'll chime in just because I just planted some SS1002 (Shade Tolerant TTTF) in a large front hell strip. I wanted to try some TTTF because it has deeper roots and I got sick of watering the "mutt" grass that was there before. I planted March 20th; and had really good germination by May 1st, but even...

Re: So. Much. Triv.
I am not sure how anyone can ID seed heads well into KBG season if your cutting the lawn. The KBG seed heads exploded for the last 3 weeks, as I have slowly lowered my HOC to cut them away, its impossible to tell the difference between the KBG seed heads and the poa-a. I normally can, but as the KBG...

BSF or Starter for new grass.....
I have a small section of TTTF I planted. It's been about 30 days since germination, so I want to either drop some BSF or use up some Scott Starter I have from years ago. I do not have a soil test, because its a small section, and I cut out the original sod and removed the top soil to lower and leve...

Re: What do to with re-graded area?
This topic is kind of touching on your other. Triv can only be killed while it’s actively growing. Make sure you hit any triv before it gets hot and goes dormant.

Re: So. Much. Triv.
I dont think it's poa-a. I did do a search and saw something thinking it was something called jungle grass or maybe orchard grass. If Triv normally did that, I think we would all know it by that. Also don't forget that different KBG cultivars are lighter or darker than others, also some of them get ...

Re: So. Much. Triv.
Are you sure it’s not poa-annua? I am not sure I could tell you what triv seed heads look like. I was never aware it put out seed heads. Just in case your not aware, KBG also has seed heads and is stalky this time of year. No idea if a 1st year lawn sends out seed stalks. Thanks to another thread on...

Re: When is new seed safe for BLSC and BLKH?
Thanks....
Actually its a small area, I can get it all from the side w/o walking on it.
I might just put some down when i get to watering every 2-3 days. We will be hitting the 80's this week, Im watering every other day. I was going to stretch it out to every 2-3 days next week.
