Re: Fescue or nutsedge?

OK, Maybe I'll sit on it a bit to see if it turns the bright green I know as nutsedge. Going to fertilize this weekend I think. My soil test is coming soon. Just got the invoice from Logan.

Re: Fescue or nutsedge?

I think I’m going to answer my own question, lol. It’s nutsedge. I looked at it closely. It’s slightly lighter than the fescue. I got the little bottle of sedgehammer. It’s roots do go straight to the center of the earth! Wind should die down and warm up by weekend. Waiting for soil report before do...

Fescue or nutsedge?

Image

I’ve had nutsedge in the past and hit it many times with sedgehammer. I also reseeded the lawn with tttf from Hancock seed in fall of ‘19.

Do I just cut it or spray with sedgehammer?

Thanks.

Grass growing under holly bush

I have 2 holly bushes flanking a fake rock that is hiding the sewer clean-out pipe in the front lawn. Under one of the bushes I'm seeing grass growing, possibly nutsedge. I have both Ornamec and Turflon Ester, which I've been using to kill a patch of Bermuda in my TTTF lawn. Would either of those wo...

Re: Success with killing Bermuda

I’m using the rate printed on the bottle for 1 gallon of spray. Ornamec over the top 2.5 oz, Turflon Ester 1 tbsp. I have tttf spreading into the dead area and still no Bermuda. It’s 4 weeks at least since last application. My neighbors yard has a patch of Bermuda and I have a clearly defined line w...

Success with killing Bermuda

I mentioned before in a post that I have a patch of Bermuda ~300 square feet in the front corner of my lawn. I was looking for a solution online can read one comment about using a combination of Ornamec and Turflon Ester. Someone suggested to put bottle rates of both in 1 gallon of water (with surfa...

Re: TTTF Seed recommendation Long Island NY

I used Hancock Seed last year and was very pleased. Put down 35 lbs to cover roughly 4000 sq. feet of dead lawn with enough left over to overseed another 2k of the front and back areas. Came up in 10 days and was mowing in another week. Of course, I watered 3x a day with 8 sprinklers around lawn. Co...

Re: Starpartyguy Soil Test 2020 2nd try

Thanks for the analysis. My lawn is recovering from horrible grub damage last year. I had 50% loss. In the reseeding process I had to remove a lot of dead grass to expose the soil to get seed down to soil. It’s looking much better now. Right now we’re in a county wide lockdown so I can’t get compost...

suppressing Bermuda in a TTTF lawn

I have a patch of Bermuda in my TTTF lawn. I estimate it's 300-400 sq. ft. And it borders the front corner of the property. It is currently brown and starting to reawaken with patches of the bluegreen grass coming through the dead brown. Can someone give me a good plan of action to remove it or supp...

Re: Restarting From Scratch

I had grubs that took out half my lawn similar to what your pictures show. I dug some test holes around the border of the good grass and the dead grass. Found them nice and fat. I would recommend you dig a few test holes along the border of the good and bad grass and see if you find any little bugge...

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)

I think I got everything I need for next few applications. Going to be frugal because so much business is closing up temporarily in Pa. I'll probably be fine. I'm not quarantined and not coming into contact with many people. Work in IT at the university and I'm essential because Help Desk has to sta...

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)

Update from last year: New lawn is doing well. Took soil samples today and found 1 tiny grub that was dead or dormant. I hate those little things. A couple before and after images to follow:

Re: Turflon Ester vs T-Zone

First, the offending grass in my lawn (Lancaster, Pa.) is almost certainly Bermuda. I compared it to pictures. I sends out runners and dies in the winter. During the fall, some of the TTTF comes back in patches. But it tends to get overcome by the Bermuda. We have a golf course 2 miles from me as th...

Turflon Ester vs T-Zone

Each winter the Bermuda grass dies off and leaves a brown 200 sq. ft. patch in the front corner of my property. I was considering using Turflon Ester (during the summer) on the Bermuda to control it. It looks like T-Zone has the same active ingredient. Could I use that to avoid buying another produc...

Re: Bare spots in spring

Thanks. Soil temps are bouncing around because we're getting mid 60's during the day but mid 20's at night. Average soil temp is 46 degrees over 5 days. My original plan was to start work around first weekend in April. I am going to collect soil to send to Logan's for a test this weekend. I think I'...
