Re: Near instant roundup reaction
Looks like they're combining the glyphosate with Pelargonic acid to speed up browning. See the wikipedia article for a bit more info. This reminds me, a while back, 2023 was stated as being the year that Scotts would cease selling glyphosate on the residential market (because they couldn't tolerate ...

Fine Fescue as well...Fescue in general often tolerates a bit of leeway in pH.
Morph: Not sure what you mean by other non-hybrid Fescues. Any examples you can think of?

Huh. Apparently deer pee doesn't result in a dead spot like dog pee.
Not sure, but looks like you also have some steamy, stolon-ish grassy weeds around that area. Or maybe broadleaf weeds, can't tell from the photo.

Re: Pennsylvania based bio-solid fertilizer? (milo alternative)
Scotts EcoScraps was already a bit higher per unit of nutrient. I bought a bag of Milo a couple weeks ago. My local Ace store still had it for $15 in the Fall, all Winter and into Spring. When I went in to buy it, it was still $15, but now it said sale price, so that means they were going up, too (t...

Re: Who all has put down Pre Emergent?
I'm just starting. I put down pre-M split app #1 on one area just now, using granular Echelon (Prodiamine/Sulfentrazone). Tomorrow will be Dimension on other areas. Also noticed a local lawn company did a neighbor's property 3 days ago. With rain coming, crabgrass will no doubt start germinating pro...

Generic Certainty now available
FYI for the crazies out there: "Sertay" Herbicide, the higly anticipated branded generic of "Certainty" (Sulfosulfuron) is now available for purchase at many of your usual online suspects (do a Google search). A bonus is that it includes the label for the instructions to use it against Poa Triv and ...

Re: Grub alternative
By the way... 2.87 lbs per thousand sounds very familiar. Oh yeah, that's the application rate for Scotts "Grubex-1" (0.08% Chlorantraniliprole). I'd put money on the Menards stuff being a Grubex clone (especially now that Chlorantraniliprole went off-patent recently. We don't have Menards around he...

Re: Grub alternative
What is the active ingredient? The only current grub prevention products I know of are: Chemical: -Chlorantraniliprole (Grubex/Acelepryn)* -Cyantraniliprole (similar to the above; not on the market yet) -Imidacloprid (Merit) (on it's way out in many places)* -Halofenozide (totally off the market for...

Re: Who all has put down Pre Emergent?
Same here...it's time to think about applying it, but there is no rain in sight and soil temps are rapidly rising next week due to temps forecast to go well into the 80s for a day or two, and 70s much of the week as well. I'm not even sure if I'll make it through without watering. The only good thin...

Re: New Grass in Shade with Acidic Soil
I would take the advice with a grain of salt, because: 1.) It's someone trying to sell something (or more than one something). 2.) They haven't seen your property. 3.) They're going by a bit of this and that chopped up and mixed together in a pot. The truth: We tend to have acidic soil here, regardl...

Southern-ct,
Twin City Seed has a decent selection at the moment. All their tags are posted on the site, too.
There may others as well.

It settled out again. I think I've diluted it more than the original dilution now. Temps are in the 60s where the bottle is.
Any way to easily determine whether it's still SLS, versus lipids?

Re: SLS solution solidified
A few days later, it's no longer hard. But if I mix it and then let it sit a day, it totally separates. The top is mostly water, and the bottom is mostly SLS. I don't know if there is a way to get to stay mixed.

Re: Prodiamine vs dimension
^The Lesco Stonewall 0-0-7, 0.68% Prodiamine 50 lb bag is only $43. Applied at 2.25 lbs per thousand square feet, it should protect for 3-4 months. I doubt SiteOne has a better price on it, from what I've seen. (I paid over $70 per bag for my Dimension there, though it has more fertilizer in it and ...

Re: SLS solution solidified
Makes sense. I put it near the heat last night. So far, I haven't added a lot of water. Less than 8oz. But it's now more of a slushy foam and no longer hard, so it's going the right direction. It went from crystalized bubbles to actual bubbles, made worse when air injected by inversions used to mix ...

Re: Prodiamine vs dimension
Both prevent primarily crabgrass, and do it well. Dimension might be more effective if your application date ends up slightly on the late side of the optimal window. There are many, many Prodiamine and Dimension products. I would just pick whichever you can get a better deal on, but note that within...

SLS solution solidified
A couple of years ago, I bought a mixed gallon (7 lbs) of SLS solution because I had heard the stories about the powder and wanted to avoid having to handle it. Maybe this was a mistake... It was stored in a cool basement (60F and 35% humidity) this Winter, and yesterday I pulled it out and everythi...

Re: 2023: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today (Cool Season)
Been 2 months since my previous mow, and no evidence another is going to be needed in the next couple of weeks. Yes, you read that right. I mowed the main front in early January. First time ever mowing in Jan. Temps are still in the 20s at night, and soil temps are in the 40s. Need to get the bed cl...

Re: Calculating Fertilizer analysis of a compound?
I have a followup question. For pesticides, when we want to figure out rate equivalents between the liquid and granular versions, is the math basically the same as for a liquid fertilizer, where you use the percentage of the component in question per unit weight? For example, say we want to equate t...
