Re: Does FAS do anything for the soil iron?
osturfman... You know what's funny... I did an FAS in Novemeber, first time ever. I guess it did darken stuff up, because it's actually not bad right now, considering the weather. But I swear I can still smell it sometimes when I walk outside and the grass is wet. Is that possible? I mixed and spray...

Water Requirements during winter dormancy?
Couldn't find anything on water requirements. Here in CT, we've gotten a good bit of rain (and snow melt, too!) so far this winter. I've noticed that the grass, though dormant, actually greens up a bit for a few days after each rain. Then when the frigid cold hits, it goes gray again (presumably fro...

This is getting interesting. I think I understand all of the points that were made.

Gary- one question:
You must have posted this tongue-in-cheek...? What exactly would this accomplish, other than wasting the foliar app by washing it off?"Do a foliar app and irrigate - best of both worlds now."

Lummox...what a cool word! "Lommock" apparently meant a large chunk of wood. So "lummox", which means a large stupid clumsy person, probably came from that...as stupid as a chunk of wood! LOL.

Checked out Amazon, and the product is now not saleable in CT, MD, ME, MN, NY, WA, WI. http://www.amazon.com/Scotts-47503-Natural-Fertilizer-Mixing/dp/B004BKS110/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389743301&sr=8-1&keywords=scotts+natural+lawn+food Well, I have a bag and a half left to use up this year, and aft...

Re: Don't Mow Frozen/Frosted Lawn
Yeah, you guessed it...the "minimalist" neighbors have mostly KBG (well, one has like 95% KBG with some PR here and there, and another has 50/50 KBG/fine fescue which is lower maintenance than KBG alone). And yes, even though they mow at 2 inches even in the heat of summer, bag their clippings, and ...

Will keep this in mind for next time. Also, have you updated the instructions yet (since soil season has apparently begun early this year)?

Re: Sampling depth and Logan
I think mine was in ppm. I remember reading a thread that said it didn't matter and you guys worked in both.
In any case, maybe picking that unit allowed me to escape any inaccuracy induced by not stating the sampling depth...?

Sampling depth and Logan
Does anyone know...? Last year I sampled to 4 inches as recommended, but for some reason wrote "N/A" under testing depth on the form submitted to Logan. It came back saying "6 in" which is their default. But does knowing the accurate depth really alter how the the lab tests are performed or their ac...

Re: Don't Mow Frozen/Frosted Lawn
Those people make me sick! Although, I wish all of my neighbors would do that routine! But, I could never be a minimalist because I enjoy it so much. As a teacher, I have the summers off and really really like experimenting with ideas I get from all of the great people on here. Sounds good. Happy 3...

Re: Don't Mow Frozen/Frosted Lawn
And the funny thing is when you have the minimalist neighbor who fertilize 3 times a year with synthetic, sprays a little weed killer here and there, mows once or twice a week, maybe a little extra seed every few years in the fall for spots, and maybe does a very light dethatch-raking in early spri...

And digging! LOL.
Rain/erosion, too.
And let's not forget BLSC and SLS/shampoo for loosening mechanically compacted soil.

Re: Don't Mow Frozen/Frosted Lawn
Hopefully, Green, your lawn will recover. You summarized it. In the past few years between fall 2011, I've been through: Tree removal which destroyed at least 12K of lawn (essentially the entire yard)-replanted in late Sept/early Oct. The positive was it resulted in near complete front lawn reno th...

Re: Spring Project , Egress Windows and dealing with my lawn
I have no experience with this particular project. But I will say that if you can pick your time, you can't go wrong having the project done in time for fall seeding. The thing I will say, is even the best planned construction projects tend to go past the initially projected timeframe.

Re: Don't Mow Frozen/Frosted Lawn
Woke up this AM to contractors walking all over the front yard near the curb (and digging for wires) while there was still frost. Of course that was in the same area that was torn up in the fall, which I had last fixed and reseeded in Oct. At least they put down a tarp for the soil this time. And th...

Your Aluminum's almost as high as mine! No surprise since we're in the same general area.
Good luck; I'm sure the soil test gurus will be by soon.

How long to wait on a fresh reno in which topsoil was used?
I have a fresh reno, done late this past fall after contruction. It's roughly 2K. We had to bring in fresh topsoil (15-20yd^3 of it) to cover the rocky subsoil that was graded, so the ground is still very soft. And there's a topsoil layer and subsoil layer which are distinct. Would fall 2014 be too ...

Re: Bumpy yard and Spring pre-emergents
Hello everyone, I have 2 questions: 1) What is the easiest/least expensive thing I can do that will yield the best results for leveling my yard? When I mow, the mower hops up and down due to the unevenness of the yard. The back yard is the worst. 2) What is a good pre-emergent for spring weeds? I d...
