Re: Proactive Bio Fungicide Program 2017

From what I have read and understand, they are all different strands of living fungi. You can always mix living creatures with other living creatures. I have been applying Serenade and Companion bi-weekly, and Actinovate/Cracked Corn monthly..mostly due to price. There should be no issues mixing any...

Experience with the Dr. Earth brand?

I thought about picking up some Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Fert for my new Gardenia bush. Thoughts?

Re: Hate these Holly Shrubs - Need Help with Replacement

Now that I actually took the time to look up "soft touch" holly's, I believe that I have a row of them next to my house. You can see them in the upper left corner of the picture. I think that Gardenia's may be very nice there in the front. They will complement my double knockout rose bush. Took you...

Re: Planted some Knock Out roses this weekend.

I think I'd try some Rose Pride. That does look like a disease. So I was mixing up some rose pride to apply to my roses, and used my plastic measuring cup. It turned it a milky white color once I washed it out. What's the deal? I also use that cup to mix my Serenade and companion. Is it going to hu...

Scotts Turf Builder Ez Seed Fescue - Lowes Sale

Just wanted to let everyone know that Lowes is currently doing half off on their Scotts Ez Seed mixtures. For those that are interested. Not sure what the consensus is around her regarding this product. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scotts-10-lbs-Turf-Builder-Ez-Seed-Fescue-Lawn-Repair-Mix/3182579?AID=10...

If it is slugs you might want to try diatomaceous earth......I sprinkle around the hostas all summer. I do wear gloves and a mask. You don't want to breath this stuff in.
Mmmm..maybe try that! I had considered getting the slug pellets, but may try this instead.

Re: Planted some Knock Out roses this weekend.

And I just noticed you're in Tennessee as opposed to my foothills of Pennsylvania where it's currently an entirely normal sixty degrees. Of course your Knockouts blossom a lot earlier. :-) I checked my yellow Knockout yesterday and it's healthy and huge, but not yet budding up. I cut the red back t...

Re: Planted some Knock Out roses this weekend.

It'll work if the damage is done by insects, but I can't tell if it is. It actually looks more like fungal damage out front, at least. The back one actually doesn't look that bad, and dropping buds is normal if the plant is shocked by being transplanted. Plus Knockouts don't generally bloom until l...

Re: First Time With Hostas - Planting from Bare Root

Your photos provide no context about the hostas' situation - when planted, what you believe is wrong, when this occurred, etc... These were planted about a week and a half ago. I'm honestly not sure what is wrong, that's why I am asking you. Looks like some insect damage on one, and possible sun da...

I believe Morpheus may have been recommending Ilex crenata 'Soft Touch', not questioning if your existing hollies were soft to the touch.
Wow...that's what happens when you try to read while washing your car..sorry Morph.

Re: Hate these Holly Shrubs - Need Help with Replacement

Soft touch holly? Those are As Advertised and grow about the same height as what I see there. While trimming will be necessary occasionally, it's easy and the clippings are--as mentioned--soft. Right now they are "softer" because the leaves are new. Once they get hard they get annoying. I'm just no...

Re: Planted some Knock Out roses this weekend.

Well the knockouts in the back aren't doing too hot. I'd debate if one is dying. No new buds at all. Double knockout in the front is looking good, but may have some kind of leaf disease trying to start? Or insect damage? Here are some pictures? https://s9.postimg.cc/j05vwe3e3/IMG_1092.jpg https://s9...

Andy here are some pictures of the hostas. What do you think may be going on? Think it's heat or a water issue? Or both..

Hate these Holly Shrubs - Need Help with Replacement

I despise these holy shrubs. They are a pain to trim, and the clippings are prickly, and just plain suck. Can you guys help me with something that I can plant here instead. Keep in mind that this is my front yard. It gets about 6-8 hours of sun a day. https://s28.postimg.cc/wioetz2s9/IMG_1082.jpg

Re: First Time With Hostas - Planting from Bare Root

Andy, so the hostas that I planted in my back yard receive some afternoon sun, and yesterday we hit 90, a record for April. I noticed that the hosta leaves wilted over on all my hostas but rebounded in the evening. Do you think this will be a battle I'll fight all summer? This morning they all look ...

Re: Need Soil Help - What Can I Do?

Thank guys! Really, all of this is very appreciated. It is easy to get bummed out on things. I am seeking perfection, and I see all these pictures of these plush lawns with good soil and I get so envious!! I apologize for bringing this topic up again, but just wanted to mention what Mr. Hogan stated...

Re: Need Soil Help - What Can I Do?

He just kept saying that he felt bad for me and that no matter what work I do, its going to take 20-30 years to get the yard where I want it. More than a few members here would argue against that, but it will take quite a while. If this is a veiled "how do I fix it this season?" question, then the ...
