Re: Spreading Expectations

I would not be worried about growing alfalfa as the hay is cut before it develops any seed. There could be some weed matter from the field though not likely to be much. I don't really know this but I don't expect that the pellet or meal creators do any cleaning of the bales before they use them eith...

Re: Review: Ryobi Cordless/40v Mower Review. (both 16in and 20in.)

Thanks for the write up. I've got a situation where I may need to buy an electric for a small yard so will be following your progress. I had some concerns about how it will deal with high grass and mulching leaves in the fall so will read your reports. The battery powered clippers and spray have bee...

Re: Spreading Expectations

Question on the Alfalfa pellets. How long does it take for them to break down from rain, foot/ mower traffic etc.? Alfalfa is available in several forms. First choice for me is the meal. It spreads very easily and gets closer to the ground. Rabbit food is also mostly alfalfa and is generally pretty...

Re: Which varmint/rodent/animal is doing this in lawn and how to discourage it

Put a few leaves loosely into the holes. If there is chipmunk activity they will open it back up pretty soon. The remedy is to drop 10 or so Sweeney's poison peanut pellets into the hole when they are relatively dry and no rain forecast. If moles it will require something different for bait. Tom Cat...

The perils of PGR over-regulation

I have not been following all of the posts for a while so this may not be new information. Article describes a method for adjusting the timing of growth regulator applications and has recommendations for application amounts. http://www.golfdom.com/the-perils-of-pgr-over-regulation/ Re-application in...

Quite a few unsolicited testimonials of improvement. Adding some of the soluble humates should also help with floculation.

Re: Keep On Fracturing!!

Of course, that leak from the storage field has no relationship or connection to fracking. Your title for the post and the non-relationship to the news article illustrate your lack of understanding of energy production and supply. I know there are people who believe that the only acceptable form of ...

Re: My lawn care regimen needs some amendments, please

I'm using a Lawn Boy mower from 1979 and it mulches just fine. Maybe get a high lift blade or a Gator Blade for yours. Is the discharge shoot closed off to keep the clippings under the mower? I don't have a problem with taking off as much as two inches, leaving grass at three inches after mowing.

Re: Is it too late for Tenacity???

Tenacity is not the all-purpose weed eliminator. You need to identify what you have a problem with. Weather seems to be about to return to more normal winter weather. Most herbicides need the weed to be growing to incorporate the chemical. Might not accomplish much even with the right product. Howev...

LoneRanger wrote:^ The scenario of root growth and no storage could exist in these conditions.
I thought the root growth, without leaf growth, was the form of storage that the winterizer is intended to generate.

If the clippings are just mulch mowed it should have some good residual effect on killing the targeted weeds.

An old guy was working out at the gym when he spotted a young hot girl walking in. He asked the trainer standing next to him, "What machine should I use to impress that girl over there?" The trainer looked him up and down and said; "I would recommend the ATM in the lobby." I've read that the US $10...

Re: N Drop , Did It Last ?

As Andy wrote the real effect and outcome is somewhat unknown at this point. However, if you have not had a flush of growth then the nitrogen was not used to generate leaf growth. If there was rain or watering to move it into the soil soon after the drop it is available for the roots, just as in any...

Re: Probasesteal's 2015 Fall Backyard Renovation

I've got a section in the back that is much like yours, or weaker. Just not enough sunlight when the leaves are on the trees to give a healthy start for the new seedlings. Then after that leaf drop the sun has dropped so low that it is still pretty weak with still some shade. I am planning for a Feb...

Re: Who still hasn't winterized?

I've had several nights in the last month with temps in the low to mid 20's. However the NWS still shows the 4" soil temps in the 50's. Top growth has not completely stopped but is certainly slowed. I'm supposed to get some rain in the next few days with cooling following that. I believe I will let ...
