Re: Something isn't right! FAS

It would take something pretty extreme in the water to make much difference. Unlikely to be city water supply. Consider how much "powder" is left if you boil a pot dry. Hardly anything relative to the stuff you are adding. and city water works for everyone else. Maybe you have some sort of water tre...

Re: Sawdust: A Love Story

Using a rate of 1 yd for 2,000 sq ft should be pretty safe from a depth and caking standpoint. Easy load for a couple of hours on Saturday a few times during the growing season. It is a multi year project anyway. But your first comment really is correct when you not that applying stuff from 40# bags...

Re: Fescue color change

A half pound of N / M sqft will not cause any harm and should quickly show some results to let you know if that is the problem. The microbes working to digest the buried wood chips will take up a good bit of what is available. They do eventually give it back as they die off when the work is done.

His only real choice now is sodding. Considering the PITA he will have from the winter months of mud that would have been a much better choice.

Re: A Fungus Among Us

Daconil is not really an all purpose fungicide. You should try to figure out what it is you want to deal with. I don't know what that fungus is but I'm certainly not one of the fungus experts. There are different fungicides designed for different problems.

Re: Urea Volatilization - Layman's Terms?

Urea volatilization does certainly occur, as noted in the various papers referenced. However those are directed more toward large users of the product, farmers and golf courses. It is really not much of an practical issue for the average homeowner who is able to supply some water within a day or two...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

The picture is just a one time look at the several yards. It does appear that your lawn seems to be the only one with the extensive snow mold damage. I don't have a snow mold problem here but am getting hit with some summer fungal patch problems that don't seem to affect the neighbors who have littl...

lol, yeah a little: http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr156/gmcsmoke/20150409_180206_zpspwxf6mpy.jpg granted I mowed at 2.5", we had rain on top of 12" of snow. it was to put it mildly a recipe for disaster this last winter. this year I'm going to hit it with serenade when I winterize to see if th...

Re: Still considering FAS again this year

Applying FAS at recommended rate is harmless, with possible benefits. Ammonium Sulfate at 0.25#/M is good for fungus control. The foliar applied nitrogen with iron is better absorbed to enhance uptake of the iron and nitrogen. Darker green grass really is a positive measure of health. My Kentucky gr...

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?

Mulched a lot of oak leaves. Sprayed molasses, milk, shampoo, humic acid and kelp. Hope to speed up the microbe munching of the leaves as more to come. Hove some urea ready for application in a couple of weeks for winterizer. Grass color looks pretty good with some response from milo applications in...

Re: Squirrel Problem

One other thought on the squirrel problem. You should recognize that trapping a couple of squirrels one time won't really solve the problem. If you have squirrels in the neighborhood, there will be others that will move into the territory left open by the couple you remove. They really do travel ove...

Re: Compost mix: when and how much?

A rather heavy application of OM at one shot will really accomplish a lot compared to a few bags of organic fertilizers a year. You might be surprised at how the earthworm numbers increase. Eventually the organic matter in the soil is increased by the decaying plant roots that you have grown. A coup...

Re: Fertilizing after Seeds pop up

The reason for a starter fertilizer application is to have some nutrients readily available on or very near the surface. Germinated seed has very little root. Some seeds take much longer than others to germinate - three weeks vs one week. Considering that some irrigation is normally used for germina...
