Japanese Knotweed
An article from Michigan State University about a new weed pest that seems very difficult to eradicate. Japanese Knotweed, a destructive invader, will proliferate if mowed. http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/do_not_mow And the BBC article related to problems in Ireland. People unable to get mortgages on h...

Re: Grass with 40" Roots in Four Months
It's not about APPLYING high doses of fungi - it's about building a healthy soil that will SUPPORT a high population of fungi. I wonder how many times Hendrikus applied fungicides all over his lawn every couple of weeks during the summer. I've only watched some of the videos. She makes little menti...

Re: Grass with 40" Roots in Four Months
Does this mean PR are generally better at drought than TTTF? The video does not mention the grass type. gave20 has said that it is rye grass. I believe the Ingham "plan", also not explained with details, is that applying high doses of fungi can create a soil that will have roots such as that for ma...

Re: Grass with 40" Roots in Four Months
There are lots of deep soils in the lawns of the people who post here. Just because it is deep does not mean that they will easily have roots like that. Generally there are several soil horizon changes that seem to make for much shallower roots.

Grass with 40" Roots in Four Months
One of the Elaine Ingham videos on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHckFprozDc I don't believe that it is a fake of any kind. However there seems to be little information on what was done to the soil, what were the soil characteristics, what is the grass type, or any information on soil ass...

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
Wow. We should have taken pictures of our lawn today before our mowing / leaf mulching. In our "before" you couldn't tell there was grass under there at all. Our "after looks about the same as the thickest leaf cover over near the white fence on your "before" picture! I generally have to mo...

Re: Newb: Starter fert or Milorganite
The reason for the starter fertilizer is to make those primary necessary growth inputs readily available at the soil surface when there is little or no root depth or mass. The P and K components are possibly more important for initial establishment for the first few weeks. Then the N applications wi...

Re: Increasing organic matter
I applied compost at a rate of one cu. yd. / M sq. ft. What I have noticed is the large increase in earthworm activity and probably population. I am having a raccoon problem with one of them digging the back lawn to get at them. First time ever for that that I've noticed. I now believe that the 1/4"...

Re: Organic material
I try to mow at least once a week whether the grass needs it or not but every five days would be better. Choose a bright dry day and blow the leaves more evenly over the lawn. Mulch mow them into the lawn. Be a bit slower on the mower walk and possibly mow some areas twice. I don't want to leaves to...

Re: Weed ID
Crabgrass is pretty easy to take out of the lawn turf. The problem is in preventing it from coming back from the seeds that are already there. Your picture shows a seed head which has not fully developed. If you spray something now you make possibly keep those seeds from entering the stockpile. That...

Re: How to increase microbes?
That compost came with microbes. A dose of molasses with some shampoo to help penetration should help. Maybe a half application of milo will add some N to help the process and give them additional food.

It looks like a spurge or purslane to me. I believe the same herbicide should take out either one. Weed B Gon Max Plus Crabgrass Control with Quinclorac will kill both of those and many others.

Re: Save Me From TruGreen? (CDs 1st Reno 2014)
The weed preventer component in that Scotts product is the same as Tenacity, just in a granular form. Possibly will do less damage to any early germinated seedlings than a foliar application, and assumes that no Tenacity was used with first seeding just a week ago.

Re: New game changing KBG product from Jacklin Seed
A variety with much higher disease resistance would be a game changer. Lower requirements could be helpful, I suppose, but dead grass from disease does not need much mowing either. Use of a growth regulator can reduce the mowing. Reducing the renovation work would be the best advance for most home l...
