Re: Alfalfa is slow release
I usually add a good handful or 2 to each rose in the spring and mid summer. Was aware of Triacontanol. That substance , figuerd between the 2/3 ratio of water soak and then laying it on, + then the daily water to germinate, it would be well watered in by then. I guess it was a bad then eh ?

Alfalfa is slow release
I have zero peat around and just wanted to topdress a smidge of seeds I have. I soaked some alfalfa pellets and used that as my mulch N should not be a issue as it needs the micro/macro stuff in the soil to do their thing right ? I consider AP more of just soil amendment / OM than as a source of N. ...

Re: Thick lawn = mowing issues
I just so was reading up on PGR. More reading to do. One thread had a post that suggested it might have surpressed the good stuff, while other stuff like POA took off....

Re: 1 acre lot
Pretty mild late summer/fall weather her. Heh, I don't have irrigation on the strip so even watering it daily seems a chore with a hose. Man, I can't imagine the timing of seeding and aligning it with mother nature on 1A. I suppose it can be like -amdending the soil- and it's just a yearly continual...

Re: What should I do next?
Nice post . I put down tenacity but based on reading this , once I’m germinated and somewhat growth , I can put down pre-m , just it’s a bit later than wanted for areas where I am put new seed

Re: Serious lawn problems (long post)
---re: the comment on couple bales of peatmoss--- Maybe it's just me, but I try to avoid peatmoss like the plague in my entire garden Not for the eco-issues that seem to be the big fuss about it. It's unavoidable when I buy racks of annuals in the spring from the nursery - that I cannot control. If ...

Re: Root Growth/Development relative to temperature
Thx. Some of my pots have bottomed out past 6" when I pulled the pot plug to check on root growth. Heh. Hence getting antsy. Never have done pot plug germination till this year, but I suppose roots can be like any potted -plant- and develop circling roots ;-/

Re: Root Growth/Development relative to temperature
I guess somewhere before hard frost and optimum fall temps is when root growth stops. I'm trying to get them in earlier vs. later so root growth will max out in ground from the pot plug... I'm delaying putting the pot plugs out until at least Halloween - mainly due to the known foot traffic that wil...

Root Growth/Development relative to temperature
Is there a ~best temp range~ of how root growth occurs in cool season grass . I've got some grass pot plugs on standby. The plan is to transplant them on the overseed areas that don't grow out as well, washout etc. Debating whether there is any -indifference- if I transplant it in Late October/Early...

I know it's too dense just by looking at it now...I'll guess I'll have I'll just make some empty plugs in a few weeks time when I'm out there planting spring bulbs.
Ha. might pick me up some crocus them for my -aeration- project

Root Competition
So what happens when you overseed too densly. Had some areas which I believe were washout. Added a smidge more seed. Needless to say, its looking a bit dense now. Will the fittest survive ;-) Or will they all compete for water, rootspace, nutrients and it will be a bare spot I will need to attend to...

How Organic in the Garden are you
Not really lawncare, but as I hesitate doing this (shrub row has mites) and I'm about to do a soil drench of a Imidacloprid based products. GEEZ, just reading the label on what it prevents, makes me think I should have the CDC on standby. I really don't want to put this ~chem~ in the soil, but this ...

Re: Transplanting Plug Pots
Interesting how the HEAT just keeps KBG dormant. I've had some pots germinated for awhile - late spring....no green poking through in the pots for almost all of summer. - In the literal sense, once the cooler days/nights came upon, every single pot has decided to send blades up. Here I was adding (m...

Re: Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
2 oz.
In former use of Tenacity on new KBG as well, I have seen it whiten some but it recovers fine.
Just not sure how much I can stunt it - as the weather slowly get closer towards old man winter

Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
Figured I'd start a separate title thread on the subject Does Tenacity stunt / effect new/ young KBG seedlings ? I know it can effect/kill new fescue...... Overseeded. Applied tenacity. I might want to re-apply tenacity in about 6 weeks out from time of overseeding, but I'm thinking that will be rou...

Last year was a super MILD winter. Maybe this is the -new norm-. Went looking at last years weather forcast well into november / December. My memory ain't as good as it used to be. Man, 2 weeks into January still looked pretty warm https://weather.com/en-MT/weather/monthly/l/3ed5989554f60f2a554a1023...

Re: Tool of Choice When Over-Seeding
I have a Groundkeeper . I never have tried that as in my head, the tines may have too much *give* and and not stiff enough to just loosen the top surface. I use it mainly for thatch but my primary use is actually working the mulch in the flower beds

Tool of Choice When Over-Seeding
I can't think of what is the proper sub forum for this... I'm a tool whore. In the gardening world, I got a slew of ARS secataurs, mix of Felco and Bahco loppers, etc. LOL, even have the Milwaukee backpack sprayer. Anyhow, if I'm re-seeding small patches, all I'm doing is using a hand cultivator jus...

Re: Mowing Choice For Seedlings
Interesting read on `green babies'. Overseed aside, where one does not have certain control....on mow timelines due to existing grass, I've always erred on side of caution and trying to let them grow a bit before cutting. On the cautious side that one the young blades ~tear- off a bit easily since t...
