Re: Josh's 2018 soil test

Thanks Andy. I googled salt vs. epsom salt and I see that Epson doesn't burn... :) But I will read your post later once it's ready. Thanks for the update on the micros. Follow-up question as I just want to make sure I'm doing this right; 3 tbs / 1k, I have 20k so I'd need 60 tablespoons for each app...

Re: Josh's 2018 soil test

I often use Mag i Cal and/or Solu-Cal so I'll continue to do so (at a heavy rate as you've noted above), along with 40 lbs of epsom salt (for my 20k sq ft lawn). Is there anything special I need to know/do with the epsom salt (as I think I've read that salt can burn a lawn)? Or just be sure to apply...

Re: Josh's 2018 soil test

Awesome, thanks! I'll read it in more detail tonight and follow-up with any questions, but at quick glance it seems pretty straightforward. Thanks again!

Re: Josh's 2018 soil test

Sorry, just wanted to ask if/when you think you might be able to take a look and advise.

I'm hoping to spend this weekend working on the yard, so if there's something specific you recommend I put down asap, I'll want to pick it up and put it down in a few days.

Thanks again!!

What should good top soil look like (what color)

I had been buying bags of premium top soil (whatever premium means) from a local garden center. It seems like really good stuff and is almost black in color. It was getting pricey so I ordered 3 yards of screened top soil from another local company. It's much more gray in color. Is the delivered soi...

Re: Qs re fall overseeding fescue with KBG

They do it because the lawncare companies tell everyone that it's necessary, but it's unnecessary and quite profitable for the lawncare companies. Is there a good thread or sticky somewhere regarding this? I'd love to read up on this as, you correctly note, everyone (meaning all lawn care companies...

Re: Scotts starter fert with tenacity; results

Thanks and I'll continue to monitor it but probably not take any action, unless you think I should take any action (sorry, I wasn't quite sure if you think I should).

I put down the Scotts granular, so I don't know how that translates to a ounces/acre... but I assume it's a pretty 'light' dose??

Scotts starter fert with tenacity; results

So about a week after applying scotts starter with tenacity, I'm seeing a lot of white grass around the yard. Is that definitely a sign of bentgrass, or might other grass turn white as well? And, regardless of whether it's bentgrass or not, is it most definitely a 'bad' grass, and should I therefore...

Re: Josh's 2018 soil test

Hi. Sorry, just wanted to make sure I did everything correctly, and also to mention that I did the sample before I did the fert on 9/8 (so it didn't affect the results).

Thanks again!

Josh's 2018 soil test

My first soil test post so hopefully I do this right! I'd greatly appreciate any help in getting my soil to where it needs to be. Lawn is pretty good overall, a decent green (could always be darker), have some issues with poa annua/triv, and lawn could be thicker/stand up taller. I have 20,000 sq ft...

Why not plug? This upcoming weather is perfect for newly transplanted plugs!!
I've decided on putting down a mix (KBG/PR). I'm not really familiar with plugs. Was even thinking of some KBG sod but figure that would really stick out in my current mix...

Is this too much upcoming rain for spot seeding?

I was going to do some spot seeding this weekend, but I now see this (1.27" in 1 day) coming:

Should I wait until Tuesday when the storm is over?

Thank you.

How exactly to mow lower in preparation for seeding (or other purposes)

When mowing lower with each successive cut, how long should I wait between cuts?

Thank you.

Of KBG/PR/FF which is the most drought resistant?

Or does it depend on the cultivar? In other words, might there be a cultivar of PR that's more drought resistant than a particular cultivar of KBG, etc...? I'm trying to figure out what I want to use to overseed my lawn (probably next fall at this point) to make it more drought resistant. Thank you.
