Saw forsythia blooms this morning here near Annapolis, MD.
Planning on applying preemergent (Dimension) on Thursday (in between the rains tomorrow Wed. and Friday), doesn't look like there's going to be any rain for the next week after Friday.

Hi Andy,
I re-read my post: I had a brain fart and starting mixing together the bottom and middle tiers!
Thanks for the info.
Turk.

Re: Soil Test -- Turk 2021
Awesome, Morpheus! Thanks! A question about applying the Borax: Maryland limits nitrogen to 2.7 lb / 1000 sf per year https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/university-md-extension-lawn-fertilizer-schedule-home-lawns So the 3 feedings with 18-24-6 starter fertilizer (e.g., Lesco) would be 0.75 lb N /...

Re: Fertilizer and "Triangle Approach"
Thanks, Morpheus for your comments here and on the soil test! I was stunned on how the nimblewill took over my front yard last year, so I'm happy for some revenge. Regarding the "middle" of the triangle, I saw one liquid product listed as a Trimec formulation that had (by weight) 2,4-D, dimethylamin...

Fertilizer and "Triangle Approach"
After reading the excellent "Triangle Approach" article, I am trying to plan out the timing of fertilizer into the plan for attacking the tons of weeds in my yard. (Second year homeowner). FYI, I'll be adding applying granular Dithiopyr/Dimension as pre-emergent once the forsythias bloom (hopefully ...

Re: Overseed Lawn Question
get a preemergent down just before the forsythias bloom I'd prefer just after the forsythia bloom. I was wondering about that myself, as this article suggests it's better to apply on the earlier side: So while the forsythia is a great visual for crab grass - other things can be used to prevent poa ...

Re: Overseed Lawn Question
It's dormant right now so I don't expect it to be greened-up yet. It looks better than MY lawn which is infested with weeds, bare spots, etc. (whine, whine, whine). My springtime overseeding on some large bare spots last year failed after the summer stress due to shallow roots. Better to overseed in...

Suppressing Sweetgum Tree Balls
Has anyone ever tried using a chemical to suppress sweetgum ball formation in a sweetgum tree (Liquidambar styraciflua)? I've surrounded by these blasted trees, including two huge sweetgum trees in the DEAD CENTER of my front yard that make a horrid mess, and another large one on the edge of my back...

Re: Getting a Head Start on Lawn Problems
Hi Turk, Welcome to the forum... I'm just a bit North of you in South Central PA. My advice is to focus on building a multi-year plan and making the good grass the strongest player on the field. Soil test and pre-emergent sounds like a great start this time of year. Focus on your forsythia for timi...

Re: It's March!! Time to Wake Up (and Happy Birthday ATY)
First time post: glad I found this forum, I'm looking forward to a more "informed" approach to lawn management, last year was a bit of scrambling to figure out what to do with the weed-infested lawn as a new homeowner (fall renovation after aerating didn't go as well as I hoped due to a cheap sprea...
