Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Although I know that it will be a multi-year process, Velocity appears to be killing the triv, while sparing the PRG in my test so far. I hope they invent something soon since I only have 1/2 bottle of velocity left - it should last me another 5 years but I think this will need to be a yearly proce...

Pre-M After Overseed
I apologize if this has been covered, but searching the forum didn't get me a definitive answer. I am fighting a Poa Triv battle with Velocity, and am leaning toward a Fall overseed with PR. I also would like to apply a pre-emergent after the overseed for the Triv, but need to know how long after th...

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Oze, I just did my first Velocity app yesterday (right before hot weather, as usually happens). It'll go a bit drought-stressed-looking and slow down because of the PGR effect as well. On the upside, it also acts as a preventative fungicide for dollar spot. On the negative side, I already have red ...

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
My experience is the best way to kill triv is multiple applications of Roundup in early spring. Folks don’t generally want to do that because it means filling the dead spots with transplanted grass or living with it until August. I’ve not had any issues with triv since attacking it in early spring....

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Thirty days after the 2nd application of Velocity, sixty days after the first. I swear that the triv looks *better* than it did a month ago. Other than the Velocity apps, the area is not being treated differently than the rest of the lawn. It's been hot, and I have been irrigating when appropriate. ...

Re: Complements from a stranger
Raised the cutting height on the Honda to the max of 4", so I'm now cutting at 6"; I think that the favorite height of the PRG is 4". Still working on the Velocity vs. P. Triv, so it's not uniformly pristine.

I never heard the term "hell strip" before coming across it on this site, either.

Re: Complements from a stranger
I don't take offense at what my daughter says. She lived in Chicago for a couple of years before moving the Land of Fruits and Nuts. She and I are about as far apart politically as we are physically, and we have some spirited discussions over video chat now and then. My response to her "grasshole" c...

Re: Complements from a stranger
Congrats! I got kinda the opposite reaction from my daughter, who moved to SoCal. I sent her a picture of my lush, striped lawn, and she responded that I am what people there call "A Grasshole". Her backyard is Astroturf.

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Update: Here's an updated picture, 30 days after the first application of Velocity. So far, the Velocity is starting to put a hurt on the Triv, with the Rye looking unaffected. Not part of my trial, but I have also added mechanical stress to an area that I also sprayed; I stood in a 10 x 5 foot area...

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
I'm going with the slow Velocity conversion campaign (2oz/acre/month through September). The invasion is so widespread that it would look horrible if I killed the triv invaders too quickly. Might get ugly anyway. I should have an idea by July how Year 1 of the counter offensive is going. As of now, ...

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Oze, I too have been fighting triv for years!! Blanket sprayed velocity at 3/4 tsp/gallon per 1000sq ft monthly in May thru Sept. This has been the worst year I have had it. A couple of questions/observations: 1. I used fungicides heavily last summer with bad brown patch etc - do you think this pro...

Re: Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Thanks for all of the replies, guys. That area in the picture in the OP started out with a few spots 2 years ago. I ignored them, and overseeded the entire yard in the fall, so no 2nd pre-emerge. Last spring, the spots grew into islands. Same response from me, except for an experiment: https://i.pos...

Poa Triv Invasion Counter-offensive
Hey Folks, As you can see below, I have a major Poa trivialis problem in an area of my back yard that i am finally going to address this year. The lawn is mostly PRG and I have a supply of Velocity, so I plan to use it to try to save the few islands of resistance rather than go full tactical nuke wi...

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Actually yesterday, 4/12. Sharpened mower blades, changed oil and (barely) finished the first mow of the season in between the raindrops and interference from Noah and his ark.
