Re: Pseudo-first generation lawn guy - First time sodder need help!

Again, I’m not an expert with sod but watering 4-5 times a day for 5 minutes each time doesn’t seem excessive based on what I’ve read from sod farms and others. Maybe if the soil was compacted and you didn’t have good drainage it could have caused that. In my case, it wasn’t fungus but a certain amo...

Re: Pseudo-first generation lawn guy - First time sodder need help!

I’m not an expert in sod but will relay to you my one experience. I had unwanted zoysia invading an area on the far side of the driveway last year. I decided to have the 1000sq ft area sodded and a landscaper installed it. This was late July when it was really hot and this area is full sun. Although...

It is technically capable of germinating, but totally impractical. You'd have to let it mature on the plant for 3-4 months, dry it out for a month, and then harvest the actual seeds from the seedheads. Who's gonna do that?
Thanks Andy

Re: KBG going to seed

Not to derail this thread but how much of the KBG seed in a lawn is viable and will germinate next year? Pway I just happened to watch a video on YouTube last night on that very thing.... the guy said contrary to what people think seed heads do not germinate. of course... he never mentioned po...

Re: Another spot seeding question.

Sod probably won’t match existing color and texture . If texture and color matching isn’t important then that might be a solution. But if it matters, it isn’t something I would do. Rather than sod, maybe take edging material from around your mulch beds. TT: yes I acknowledge the problems of sod rel...

It seems like the easy way to go would be with the sod.
Definitely the easiest way, Masbustello. There are the issues Turftoes direst, though.

Another spot seeding question.

I didn’t want to hijack southern’s thread but I have some similar questions. I had some triv spots on which I’ve used roundup, let fallow, used roundup again, let fallow. I was debating on waiting to reseed until August or get some sod and replace it now. In either case I’d dig up the dead triv and ...

Re: How long does serenade smell bad?

Thanks NE. I think I’m okay with it going away overnight or so but if it were a few days that’d be a concern. I drop Milo a lot and it goes away pretty quickly to me. Something like the deer spray seems to last longer and I don’t like to use that if people are outside next door. Thanks again.

How long does serenade smell bad?

I don’t really care myself but I’m concerned about my neighbors who have pretty much been living on their patio during the last month of Covid19. Our lots are a bit more than an acre but my neighbors patio and pool is about 30’ from my property line. Does the smell dissipate within an hour or so or ...

Re: Reno - Seed Superstore Recommendation

The ss1100 blend has very good cultivars in it. I would go with that of what you listed. I have seen some pictures of beautiful Ryegrass lawns so a Perennial Rye blend should be on your list. If you have a lot of shade, then Bluegrass may not be great. I would try Tall Fescue before Fine Fescue wit...

Re: Serenade Sticker Shock, any big box sources?

Pour into a smaller container then out of that. Turkey baster. Siphon. Add a spigot. Thanks Timmy. I had visions of dropping the2.5 gallon jug. Reading the label it sounds like this stuff is toxic but after doing a search on this site it sounds like it’s not so bad. One more question if I may, is t...

Re: Cut quality & Fungal??? Issues

I have an Exmark 30” commercial walk behind that I love. It gives me a better cut than my John Deere lawn tractor. Do you have any trees, hills, things to maneuver around? I'm reading that the Exmark can be a little big/heavy for that kind of mowing. I don’t really have hills but have many mature o...

Currently I’m shopping for a commercial walk behind.
I'm looking to upgrade my walk behind as well. Have you found anything interesting?

Re: Timing of preventative fungicide

I'm not sure that there isn't a middle-ground between doing nothing and full-bore chemical fungicides - I've had a great deal of luck with "Serenade", which is a strain of beneficial bacteria that (naturally) preys on fungal diseases, and actually generates an antibiotic. I'm on year 8 or 9 of it d...

Question re painting triv with roundup

I have quite a bit of triv this year. A couple patches were sprayed with roundup and I’ll follow up with a second spray in a couple days. I remember reading about forum members who literally used a paint brush for some individual blades. I have tried that in some areas in which the triv was mixed wi...
