When is new seed safe for BLSC and BLKH?
My mini TTTF Reno came up around May 1st, I’m experiencing an annoying amount of sprout and pout, but I am being patient and have been holding off any fertilizer (BSF) until June 1st or until I can get at least one cut in. I have seen some puddling when I water it, a combination of the peat moss I u...

Re: Poa Triv Explosion...Comfort me
What does triv seedhead look like?
I thought triv didn’t make seedheads if the grass was cut at normal heights.

Does poa-a germinate in the spring...
While performing my morning poa-a purge, I noticed a lot of the poa-a I was pulling barely had a single grass blade. It's almost as if it just came up. its actually a good thing that its not poa-a that survived the summer, but it got me thinking; if poa-a starts germinating in August when temps are ...

Re: Preventative fungicide program
I started this years preventive program with a product called Cease, that is supposed to be equivalent to Serenade. I can't find Serenade by the quart anymore, so had to settle for a gallon of Cease. I would never use 2.g gallons of Serenade, hopefully this Cease product works out. I am also started...

Re: KBG seed heads-mow or no?
I never got a good answer on this. It seems like keeping a low cut just encourages the KBG to grow shorter shoots and seed heads, it seems like you want to just trim them off when its done seeding. My plan this year is to let the lawn get to about 3-3 1.2" just before memorial day, live with the sho...

Re: Need Help with Lawn (Pic Included)
I am having lawn flash backs, that could be my old lawn. I had a lot of grass that grew OK, but also a lot weeds and grassy weeds. I really jumped the gun when I first started, and made a bunch of mistakes. Try and be patient and go through the triangle approach to take care of the weeds and see whe...

Re: Potential Serrenade replacement?
Thanks just grabbed a gallon, should be better than buying it by the quart on amazon. I can even use 6oz a week every week if I really wanted to, but I usually alternate with companion, so a gallon should last me into the fall.

Potential Serrenade replacement?
Last year it was difficult to buy Serrenade in the quart sizes, and 2.5G is way more than i use in a year. You can still get the quart bottles on amazon, but they are almost $50 a bottle. Seven Spring farms suggests this product as an alternative to the qt size..... https://www.7springsfarm.com/ceas...

Re: Did We Overpay for Our Core Aeration/Overseed??
Over seeding in the fall is better, but there are times to seed in the spring….. 1. If the area is around trees, trees don’t have leaves in the spring and can help grass get a head start if the area is shadier in the fall. Especially on north exposures where the sun changes and can be behind the hou...

Re: Bag or Mulch mow a Poa annua-infested yard?
Just remember there isn’t any absolutes with regard to poa-a. No pre-m is 100% effective. Summer heat doesn’t necessarily kill all the poa-a. Poa-a may look dead after a few tenacity apps, but it will often comeback. I respect my enemy (poa-a), and I don’t take chances and will bag my clippings when...

Question about timing of 1st Tenacity App....
I cut my lawn short yesterday to get rid of some of the old grass and to see what I got for this year. I have a lot of poa-a coming along as usual. Last year I pulled the poa-a by hand because I wanted to encourage the KBG to spread. This year the KBG looks pretty good, and the poa-a is pretty wide ...
Why not dig down near the property line cutting all the roots? You could lay a barricade that would stop the roots from growing back on to your side.
Its a street tree in the middle of a lot of pavement. My little square is probably w...

Re: Hell Strip full of tree roots.....
Thanks it was a big job that ended up taking 2 days. My Dad is big on saving any soil he can, so we sifted any loose top soil from the sod. We saved all of that. The second day we took an old grub hoe thing and chopped up all the soil up to 3” below grade. It was full of roots and took a few hours t...

Re: Poa-a and Poa-t questions
You will have to do a search on dealing with triv. Poa-a is shallow rooted and pulls out easily after a rain, the triv branches out like vines. If you dethatch or even scalp it, it branches off and comes back stronger. It’s bad stuff. Using round up when it’s growing in the spring can sometimes kill...

Re: Poa-a and Poa-t questions
Applying tenacity to tackle poa-a is an art form I have not yet mastered, especially when you see all the poa-a in my backyard. I’ll tackle the pre-m though, prodiamine works on more weeds and lasts longer. The liquid concentrate is cheaper, although Lowe’s actually has a granular version of it this...

Re: Pulling POA
I grabbed one of those groundskeeper 2 rakes. Its not quite as damaging as a de-thatcher, but you will be surprised how much dead stuff you pull out of the lawn with it. When I used the groundskeeper rake this year, I had tons of dried up, yellow poa-a seed heads in the rakings. The same yellow poa-...

Thanks, I know I have been using the twenty mule team soap, and double check that it’s the manganese sulphate I have been using. Maybe come up with a better way to mix it in.

Re: Spring 2021 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...
Thanks a lot. I tested at about 4” with my little soil sampler like I always do. I must have checked 6” when I filled out the form, but the sample depth should be 4”. I’m up for any suggestions on Boron and Manganese, I still have what was suggested in the past. I mix it with my bi weekly 1/2 rate B...

Spring 2021 SE Mass. Soil Test (logan Labs)...
Thanks for the soil report review. I sampled only the backyard and not the hell strips, so it may change a few values from years past. The lawn is a KBG lawn with 1,500 sf. Last year I followed the guide lines guidelines I have been getting for a few years now. I applied 2#/k of SOP monthly and Twen...
