Re: is this KBG?

Awww, man! The dreaded "scratch renovation plan" question. I knew it would come some day. This is the one that will pit moderator against moderator, member against member, in the ultimate cage match of the century - no disqualifications. The last man standing wins. Where did I put my steel folding c...

Re: Bermuda Lawn in Marble Falls, TX

Greensand goes on a little heavy at 40 pounds per 1,000. That's a full bag per 1,000.

If it is time to fertilize, then yes. Greensand won't have any effect on fertilizer. What kind of fertilizer did you settle on?

Re: Compost Tea

Went to a seminar at Disney's EPCOT Center last weekend and was introduced to compost tea for the first time. I have spent 3 days reviewing organic gardening articles on the Web and am now baring my fertilizer-using soul to the world and forever renouncing the use of Scott's Bonus S for my lawn and...

Re: Newbie with Soil Test result could use some advice !!!Pics!!

An organic program, when you buy your stuff from a feed store, costs about the same per 1,000 square feet per year as a synthetic program. I've done that calculation year after year for people who are afraid of the cost. The cost goes up by 6x if you buy commercially bagged organic fertilizers. The ...

Re: Bermuda Over Seed Tips

That is very interesting. I suspect that if you saw a drop off in germination you would have stopped using the grits. Then again it IS bermuda.

How often do you use seed? Can I ask where you buy it and what specs you look for?

Where do you get the grits? Can you get them in a brown bag?

Re: For those that want to download those JPGs faster

Thanks for the esplanation, Andy.

My daughter's new laptop with 64 bit Vista is considerably faster than our other wireless laptop computers. I don't think we've ever connected it directly to the router to see what it can do hardwired but that would be interesting to try.

Re: is this KBG?

If it seeds at a low height and the seeds are whitish, poa annua. If it seeds high and the seeds give the grass a blue look, then KBG.

Re: Bermuda Lawn in Marble Falls, TX

TW, what he's referring to is my suggestion to use greensand after a heavy rain. If you have nearly four inches of rain in a week, that's heavy enough I think. What happens normally is the microbes and sulfur added will change the pH from 7.7 down to something much lower which makes iron available. ...

Re: Bermuda Over Seed Tips

I absolutely know what you're talking about. In San Antonio everything that isn't pelleted cakes up in a spreader. I can't get alfalfa meal but apparently some people can. The point is that corn products might not be a good thing to use. Anything but corn to mix bermuda seed. That is a good idea to ...

Re: Need Help with Brown Patch

I knew you were from DFW. Bradford pear was the second clue. Thanks for changing it. The worst is people from Southern California. SoCal just doesn't get it. The altitude changes from minus 50 to 10,000 feet with accompanying climate changes. They have foggy beaches, arid deserts, and snowy mountain...

Re: Bermuda Over Seed Tips

Thank you for posting this message. I've never seen the other boards so hot with people wanting to overseed their bermuda. I have a couple suggestions. 1. PATIENCE ! :club: :club: Bermuda seed does not germinate in cold soil. It germinates in HOT soil. If you are uncertain about the soil temp, wait ...

Re: Bestlawn, or anyone, please help me match Galaxy KBG w/ sod

If you have good grass growing in the rest of your yard, I would make my own patch out of that and lay it in. Or pull plugs out from around the lawn and put plugs into the swale. That way you are sure to get a perfect match.

Re: Need Help with Brown Patch

With corn meal you don't have to wait for anything. You can apply it in the rain if you want. You have to be careful when you put your location as "North Texas." Outsiders think of the Panhandle as North Texas. Assuming you live in the DFW area, you're about 230 miles further south of where I work i...

Re: Maintenance Program

I don't have time to keep up with Dr Ingham and do all the rest of the stuff I do. She does seem to be against the casual use of sulfur and sulfates as they are both fungicides. Andy you might check to see if you're using sodium thiosulfate.

Re: Need Help with Brown Patch

I never had any success with chemical fungicides. If you read the label and follow the directions perfectly, you'll find that the only day of the year that the application conditions are right in Texas is in January. Once I started using ordinary corn meal, all my fungus issues either went away or b...

Re: Maintenance Program

That about sums it up for me.

Some of the San Antonio tea makers have tested their tea with and without tap water. Tap water seems to kill half the microbes relative to rain water. At least you're getting the other half.
