Re: Deer problem
Thanks for the tip and cautionary note regarding DMSO. Hoosier, there are bear problems in the Northeast and in parts of NJ but not so much where I am. The difference here, anyway, is that there is a bear hunt that helps reduce the population. The deer are viewed by many as "cute" so there isn't agr...

Looks great Eric! Really quick results too! Question, when you guys refer to the "don't disturb the soil" are tou talking about aeration or are you including de-thatching in that?

Re: Deer problem
Thanks Andy. Is DMSO dymethol sulfoxide? Do you mix it with liquid fence? Yes, the deer here are way out of balance. The woods I referred to is slowly becoming a field since no new trees survive so older trees are okay but nothing new survives. The water table has changed, it's become marshy in many...

Deer problem
I live in a suburban area and there are about 100 acres of wooded area across the street. I grew up here and years ago the town allowed deer hunting for a week or two in the fall, which kept the deer population in check. About 20 years ago they banned the hunting. The result is that it is like have ...

Re: Mowing strategy prior to overseed
Okay, so as an update, I am proceeding with an overseed and will do a full renovation in a year or two if this doesn't work out. Mowed down to 1" and put down mesotrione and spot spread peat. I ended up being talked into purchasing a mix and bought the enhanced seed, which reduces weight by about 50...

Watering in peat moss in overseed
I'm going to overseed in a couple weeks and will use peat moss as a top dress for a number of spots but not the whole yard. Is there any change in irrigation for those spots? Do you have to initially saturate the peat moss or do you just water it as a normal water plan? I thought I read somewhere ab...

I used to have a push one you filled with water. Wasn't too difficult to push. Probably was 75 or 100 gallons.

Re: What tools do you have on wish list?
New to this: wow!!! Scag is top of the top. I've looked at them but couldn't pull the trigger, although I'd love to. That's a 5 digit price tag, right? How much lawn are you cutting? I hear the cut is just beyond belief.

Re: What tools do you have on wish list?
Thank you Andy, I appreciate the input. So it sort of sounds like the tow behind May be better suited for projects that require a bit less precision. I have a cheap two gallon tank that is probably fine for spot praying and dandelions and such but I'm not comfortable with that for Tenacity or Dimens...

Re: What tools do you have on wish list?
I primarily mow with a push mower but also have a John Deere lawn tractor. I did see some tow attachments too, but I worry about precision, maybe I'm being overly cautious but I have a healthy respect for these chemicals.

Re: What tools do you have on wish list?
I too am considering a push sprayer or a high end backpack. I'm just starting to work with tenacity and other chemicals you don't get at the big box store. My main objective is to get something I can calibrate well and will deliver the exact amount I need. I went through the website here and went ba...

Did you ride them both? I have a similar sized property with lots of trees and I think turning radius is important--to me anyway.

Re: Question on Grub-Killer Applications
I'm not an expert but after pressing the matter with Scott's they said it was a total waste to put it down in my area in late June. I have it in my shed and will use it next April. University extensions are saying the same thing, as many here have noted. You may or may not protection from the Bayer ...

Yes Greenbum, that is the new active ingredient and Scott's themselves said mid May at the latest for the new AI. Poor packaging and website info.

Re: Mowing strategy prior to overseed
Thanks for the input, all. I'm going to do the mowing in one day, maybe with two or three passes. One thing I didn't mention is that it was very wet here a couple months ago and I didn't use azoxystrobin and got a fungus (melt out or SP?). The grass is coming back some so I don't want to let it go d...

Mowing strategy prior to overseed
As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I can't do a full renovation and have decided to do an overseed and take what marginal benefits I might get. I'm cutting at 3.5 inches now and realize I should get down to 1 or 1.5 inches when I seed (late august). Is this an instance to ignore the one-third rule...
